Aishwarya is very good artist. But in this film she acting was not bad. she's play umarao's role is good. Totaly film is not bab.
JP Dutta thinks that by having Aish,Abhishek,Dress,Jwellery,Showpieces and Urdu he can create a masterpiece. Bad thought ! In the sunday evening show I saw people laughing(on jp dutta's comedy show) and banging there head. If not for the 150/- paid for the ticket, I would have quit before interval.
Aish is hyped, when did she last give a good movie ! Abhishek is wasted, does not suit the role.. Dress,Jwellery,Showpieces look glamorous but fail to create the nostalgia of that era. The approach is not down to earth. The common dialect shown in the movie is bad and not consistent. In bollywood, you can get Urdu from anywhere and you can hammer your actors to speak it. I found the dialauges just timepass....not impressive. The worst thing is music..A lot of credit for the movie's failure goes to Anu Malik.
Don't know what Sunil Shetty was doing there....may be to add some comic...His time is over..he should try his hand in children's movie..and same for Puru rajkumar.
Umrao Jaan is such a waste and boring movie. There is no chemistry between the two.It is more desperation than love. And Ash doesnt even looks sad.She just cries with no feelings. It is just a waste of money.
Good script which has the potential of being handled well but Mr.Dutta hasn't handled the subject well at all...this was one classic unlike 'Don' which could've easily been remade brilliantly but Mr.Dutta simply wasted the opportunity.Aishwarya has once again proved that she acts well only if she's directed by a good director. She looks breathtakingly beautiful though.I guess Sanjay Leela Bhansali would've done better justice to reamking a classic and getting Aishwarya to act.
This is a superb movie. i'm not a fan of Ash..But her acting is very good in this movie..way above my expectations. Movie has some touching scenes, which you cannot forget for a long time.
JP Dutta's film comes across as hollow because it doesn't ring true to that era. There is a certain element of poignancy, elegance, and restraint, missing from the narrative. Visually, the film is like Devdas with its tawdry opulence. The actors have not fared much better, with the exception of Shabana Azmi. It's probably partly her background and early exposure to literature, poetry and knowledge of Urdu that give Shabana a presence heads and shoulders above the rest of the cast. Aishwarya Rai is undeniably beautiful, breathtakingly so, but she is not actor enough to rise above the director's lack of vision. Abhishek Bacchan is good but he is raw. It is clear that while his "cool" quotient remains high, he has not completely mastered the fundamentals of his craft yet. JP Dutta's most important task had to be to recreate the milieu of late 19th century Lucknow, which would allow his cast to experience, absorb, and emote the pathos and finesse of that time. This film is too cliched. For acting, elegance, pathos, and music it can never match the brilliance of the first Umrao Jaan. God, the music of Umrao Jaan is haunting...In Aankhon Ki Masti...who can ever hope to match that?
what more can i say.......just that is a awful movie, starting from direction, acting except sabana azmi.Has anybody ever thought aishwarya can come close to Rekha??????i mean its awful to see her perfom.....its a torture.Having a good looks doesn't certainly mean you can act.... I am horrbily dissapointed with J.P Dutta. Moreover i didn't see any chemistry between Aish and Abhishek... DISGUSTING!!!.........don't go and waste ur money
First of all one shouldn't compare the new Umrao Jaan to the old version. JP Dutta's Umrao Jaan is clearly based on the novel. Many critics have rated this movie as poor, which according to me is unfair. Almost all of them have surely compared the Ash starrer with the Rekha starrer. If a film as brilliant as Swades could be rated as poor by critics, I don't find it justified rating Umrao Jaan as poor. Its an Aishwariya Rai movie all the way. She's done a brilliant job in ever way, be it dancing/acting/looks. She emotes and expresses extremely well and looks stunning as usual. JP Dutta's version is well made but the only problem is with its length. Also choreography by Vaivabhi Merchant is not upto the mark. Saroj Khan would have been a much better choice for the choreography. Umrao Jaan of 2006 is definitely a movie that will make Indian Cinema proud. I would give it a 4 stars out of 5. And for the music, 3.5 stars out of 5.
