Killing the essence !
by Cj on May 29, 2006 10:57 AM

Eeekkkksss!!!. ... What has the director done?... Dan Brown's imagination could not have been ruined in a better way?? The movie comes no where near to the brilliance of the novel. The journey I made to the virtual world during my rendezvous with the contents of the novel was more fascinating and magnanimous than the movie. I feel no one except the guy playing SILAS could do any justice to the role. Even Tom Hanks (except in the last scene where in he breaks down in Louvre's Courtyard) could not live up to his reputation of being able to adapt to his charachter. The descriptions through flash backs were simply insufficient and ill placed. Off and On I feel that the controversy over the Mary Magdeline and the church's retaliation to an altogether divergent description of the Holy Grail becomes the only reason why some one who has not read the novel should go and watch the movie. Otherwise, its nothing more than a mishandled artifact.

Take a break
by ravi on May 29, 2006 10:18 AM

I don't think you have any experience of writing a review for a film. Take a break to learn how to write a review and then start over it again.

I guess you haven't read the book and u might have found the movie to be a time waste for 2.5 hours. The director has done a good job. Hes done his homework in what scenes are imp and what are not. The actors have lived upto their role and the film is worth a watch (atleast once for sure).

I rate the movie as GOOD with 3 out of 5 points.

I don't want to comment any more on your review as it is your view and not anyone else. But first learn how to write a review or else just don't take the task of writing a review. No one is interested to read such a thing where in the climax of the movie is put at the start of the review.

I think rediff need to take these things seriously bcoz if these things repeat no one would like to go for a movie and rather read reviews on rediff to know what happens in the movie.

Its a watchable movie
by Raaj on May 29, 2006 10:15 AM

I am really surprised, why the reviewer antagonized the movie so blatantly? Did he posed to be different and intellectual by criticizing a commendable 35mm effort which has already broken so many records of box-office turnovers.
To be honets one needs to read the book thoroughly and watch the movie with an open mind. Stories build on controversy otherwise it becomes a blatant boy-meets-girl ron-of-the-mill or sexist dramma or a high-octane sci-fi movie. Da Vinci Code gives an entire new flair of movie watching, where the viewer will think and think of the intricracies and wonderful plot.
Being a sincere reader and fan of Dan Brown I also understand there are several flaws in the story and the movie being an honest representation of the book isnt also perfect. Howevr one has to accept nothing in the world is 100% perfect.
If you create then you will only commit mistakes. Its easy to criticize by spending only a few hours in a multiplex. But believe me it needs a rare quality of analysis and deeply rooted study and out-of-the-block creativity to write a Best Sller like this and even making such a great movie like this.
Do watch it after reading the novel. Its worth!!

Da vinci

This reviewer must be the one who watches afternoon soaps in Indian TV and nothing else. Actually as per the story, Opus Dei is not the one who tries to cover the grail trail but vatican. Sophie is not the grail but 'Mary Magdalene'.he deos not even have the right facts. he has started commenting on a movie like Da vinci code. Rediff do not entrust the job of reviewing a good movies to such MORONS.

I think reviewer absolutely doesn't have taste for good movies. Its excellent movie and i beg to disagree that tom hanks fan should not see this movie, he did a great job and so are the other actors. Stupid hindi movies get good reviews here but good movies doesn't.

As a reviewer you should atleast have the decency of letting people decide if they want to watch the movie or not and not blurt out the suspense or the mystery part of any movie like you have here. The movie is based on a set theme, but you have killed the mystery element in the movie and people who will like to watch the movie will not anymore, just because u are trying to be a hero. If you ask me, its downright unprofessional and stupid.
