The review

Dear film critic,

First to compliment your style of writing and bravo as you were able to extract the essence of the movie in a matter of 3 sentences.

But now coming on to your analysis of the movie. I think you should put a disclaimer before you give your review of the movie, for I think that you must be amongst the rare breeds who found the movie worth only 1.5 stars. And to think that you must have influenced so many people with your review is unfair to the movie. The movie may have been difficult to follow at times for people who havent read the book, but that shouldnt be a set back for the ones watching the movie before reading the book as the movie was strung around a plot which was very interesting even though at times hard to believe. But its just fiction! One could argue that the movie was not made as well as the book was written, but this is a fact you have left out in your review. And so I think it is unfair to give this movie such a low merit and compare it with the likes of other movies who get such a grade.

It is a wonderful movie for the ones who like fiction.

Its jus a Movie!!!
by radnus on May 29, 2006 05:21 PM

The movie is quite good and so was Tom Hanks...but in the end I see it jus as another good movie with good plot and cast...My belief is If you get serious abt the movie then its a waste of ur time
But then again I do not believe that its a movie made to ride on shear controversy, its bold as the Novel was; I dont understand why ppl start to protest this as this topic is already read by millions and there are documentaries in Discovery every week...

i agree
by Arti Saggi on May 29, 2006 04:43 PM

I totally agree. Its better to read the book than watch the movie. It hasn't lived up to my expectations atleast. Mr Segupta you have taken the words from my mouth as they say. I felt exactly the same. As if i had been cheated. But then its pretty difficult to show all tht was in the book in a two and a thity three mins movie. You can't do justice to it. Also i was upset coz Sophie's role had been cut off to an extent tht she has nothing much to say in the movie. Whereas in the book she is the protagnist. Leave everything aside...the atory line has been changed in the movie. I did feel rotten afer spending 200 bucks on the ticket....leave aside the much needed refreshments and the time wasted. :(

does this idiot ever like any movie????????
by ankit on May 29, 2006 04:10 PM

Is this man crazy or what..??such a wonderful movie.. it is not aimed at shaking your faith or something. it is about coming out of the religious and superstitious spell that we people have woven ourselves into.. truly this is a work of fiction, but thats true for 99% of the movies. so why create a fuss over it? everything about the movie was good. i went to watch it just to enjoy the movie, and not to decide whether it is fiction or factual. and trust me i got my money worth!! so dont let this man's opinion affect yours, watch it and form your opinion yourself.remember this guy likes darna zaruri hai and paheli..!! and mr sen you must learn to write a review.you are not supposed to reveal the entire suspense to all your readers. trust me guys this man is crazy. go ahead and watch the movie anyways.. m sure you'll love it..

Quite a good movie!
by Taher on May 29, 2006 04:05 PM

I would rather take the hoof-beaten track and agree with the messages posted that the reviewer has missed out the complexities in the story or has rather not understood the book and hence fails to realise that the movie does quite a good job in projecting what the book wanted to.

Primarily it remains a work of fiction and that has to be kept in mind all the time.

Tom Hanks is a brilliant actor and rather than saying time and again that he seems lost and distant, watch the movie again just to re-view the scenes where he suffers from claustrophobia. Simply brilliant emotions! Other actors too in their own premise stand good ground. They do justice to the characters as visualized by Dan Brown.

Here is a story that is not so straight-forward to be made a movie of. The director has put in a commendable effort and should be praised for the same.

I would like to re-state that it is not the movie that one would find confusing by itself. It's the plot that Dan Brown has come up with. So many angles and yet they merge beautifully in the end. Think again and watch it with a open mind and thorough concentration.

Sengupta's da vinci caper
by Uncynical on May 29, 2006 11:22 AM

Sengupta:

You obviously haven't read the book, or you'd have known that Audrey Toutou is NOT the Holy Grail. If you wish to know what the Grail a la Dan Brown is, you berk, pick up some literacy.

Well, anyway, it's clear the world is now divided into two halves - those fer and agennast the Code, as Bangaloreans would say. You can also make that viewers and critics.

How come ALL the reviewers / critics have got the popular mood wrong??

It seems the critic already had a bias against the story before watching the movie. The movie is definitely not so bad as projected here.

Get a life Mr. Reviewer (?)
by VIkas on May 29, 2006 11:07 AM

I dont know why rediff can't hire sensible reviewers.
I doubt whether this reviewer even deserve to write a review for a David Dhawan film.(Da Vinci Code is pretty distant thing) !!!
The film is one of the best hollywood flick in recent times and kinda must see.Just stop writing and publishing such filthy and frivolous reviews.
