Well written article. I felt exactly the same
when I saw that infamous episode. Himesh Reshamaiyya
has crossed all the limits and ZEE tv has resorted
to such cheap tricks to boost their ratings.
ZEE tv has become such a cheap channel promoting
regionalism for their program. ZEE tv should be sued
for unnecessarily creating a rift among the people
based on their region. Some stupid lady in the public says that it is India\\\'s voice and not assam\\\'s
voice and HR and AS agree to that. Ismail Durbar(ID)
was right in what he said. Did ZEE tv have any rules
before the program started that there should be equal
distribution of votes from all the regions.

Himesh Reshamaiyya(HR) has the audacity to talk about the votes in television. HR is an average music director who has no talent and just happened to be lucky. Vinit is one of the worst singers in the competition and he has such a false voice and imitates mohd.rafi and sonu nigam. I don\\\'t think he stands a chance in bollywood. He might get a few chances in movies in which HR is the music director but that\\\'s about it. He ain\\\'t any Sonu nigam.

himesh and aadesh r cheap. throw them out
by Abhinav on Feb 10, 2006 03:36 PM
Fully agree. Himesh Reshammiya is soooooooo cheap. he tries to build love stories just to give publicity to vinit. He never praised his other singers like Paresh, Ujjaini. how can he be so baised to them. were they bad? or has vinit given him something that nobody gave him.
And Aadesh srivastava.he\'s one of the worst music directors.just with 1-2 hit like baghban or chalte-chalte in which also he had only 4 songs, wat he is he so proud of. his songs dont even become hit, forget the film....foolish, idiots,
dont know y zee tv took such people as their judges...arent there really talented people in the music industry.
look at the decency of ismail darbar. even though he had few hits, since he does only few films, he never praises himself and is so down to earth.

i hope zee tv finishes the public voting method. that is nothing but making money and making everyone fool. and plz bring some decent people as judges.

This kind of treatment will alienate the NE even more
by Sukonya Gogoi on Feb 03, 2006 04:42 PM

I work in an MNC as a software engineer and never have I been met out with discrimation because of being an Assamese. But when I see how people outside Assam are ignorant about us,I cannot help but feel bad. There are people who ask me "cherapunji is in assam right"."Is there snowfall in Assam?""You all do bamboo dance, right?"But I forgive them thinking, their geography books might not have been as exhaustive as ours.Because,in Assam,we are made to memorize which festival belongs to which state, which state is famous for what.I still remember, when,as a child,I went on a family vacation to Darjeeling, and one of the Indian tourists asked my Dad"Where is Assam?"We considered it ignorance. But now when ,in every episode of sa re ga..I see the ill treatment meted out to Debojit,I feel bad for what India stands for.I am educated enough to consider this as a TV gimmick. But what about the ppl who never come out of Assam. It will b easier for insurgents to motivate them against mainstream India. Moreover the rules of the game were clear b4hand.Recently when an assamese conetestant won a title in mumbai, the local ppl protested saying"how could one from Assam be declared the winner. Sa Re Ga Ma
by Czar on Feb 03, 2006 03:09 PM

The show Sa Re Ga Ma itself sucks. It may be getting better TRPs than the other peer programs, but it has managed to create war among the participants not leaving behind the judges and audiences.
I say, if one already know that the competitors are going to be judged (voted) by SMS's or phone calls, (and that too unlimited times by a single voter), then he or she(or even the hosts) should be well averse of the fact that something like in the case of Debojit would occur.
Like there was racial abuse in the far west, from a long time there had been a similar regional abuse against the people of north east. There are lots of Indians ignorant that Assam as well as the whole North-East is an integral part of India. As the young lady in the show shouted "It cannot be Assam's voice, it has to be India's voice". Poor girl, I would suggest go get your geography right.
These are some grave issues that afects the sentiments of people from North-East like me. No I would not vote on Sa Re Ga Ma like Mahesh Peri says, consequences are grave, and we already seen much of the consequences. Thats what you call a reality TV show, creating feelings of rivalry. Oh yeah! This really suck.

Dear Mahesh,
I agree with you.Debojit is a Bengali(a linguistic minority in Assam),settled in Assam for ages;he gets the maximum votes from that place. But then if the competition is confined to Assam only he might not have got the votes, that is the farcical society we are living in. Communalism is inherent in us. Look at the way these guys behaved, Adesh and Himesh. I find them to be absolutely uncultured, uncouth, irresponsible people. I sincerely believe that playing "drums" or "crooning" doesn't give education. I am a cardiac surgeon from Assam and residing in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. I believe they are under matric status, at least the way they behaved. The are not fit to stay in any civilised society, thats the reason why I believe communal clashes are maximum in places where Himesh and Adesh belong to, peolple who have a say in society behaving like psychopaths. R U LISTENING ADESH AND HIMESH? I actually pity them. Can you PLEASE go through the history books and know about our country please. Can Mahesh pass on this message to them? This is an open debate and I am ready to take on these people at any level. Agar Maa ka dudh piya hai to national challenge ho jai, TV par?

My heart goes out to Debojit

Mahesh Peri has let his parochialism overrule his judgement. Debojit should have been out of the competition long ago. He just does'nt measure up to the standards set by the other singers. Nihira was head and shoulders above him. So was Himani. As a matter of fact, so was Rajiv from Chamba. Peri should realise that this is not an election to find the voice from the North East.It is to find the best SINGER from all of INDIA, not the most popular person. As for Vinit, the fact that almost everyone from the audience who was asked preferred Vinit is an obvious commentary on Peri's comments. I grant that Debojit was outstanding in the 'Mentor's choice' show and I was surprised when he did'nt get 10/10 but the fact that the singer's are being judged by knowledgeable music directors probably points to some flaw in an otherwise perfect performance. As for Ismail Durbar, the less said the better. He is the most uncouth and irritating person on the show. I was very happy when he walked off. We would have been spared his irritating persona.

I d not agree with the learned author of this piece. The TV show in question is the better show of all the musical shows on Indian TV. It was unfortunate that the judges got involved so personally, but Ismail Darbar has to give up the histrionics and start behaving like a musician, I can understand it will be difficult for him given that he is not a true musician. Giving music in a few movies and then criticising the director of the same movies is tolerated only in India, it will not be tolerated here in the US. If he wants to walk out of the show he should do it and not give speeches as to why he is still there. THis only shows that he is so weak in his principles and would go down to any extent for publicity. Shame on ISMAIL DARBAR !!!

SHAME
by arti verma on Feb 03, 2006 09:10 AM

It's a shame when wellknown personalities behave in such a childish fashion because it encourages bigots amongst us to take centrestage. In a drama like this the ones with the loudest voices are heard and not the ones with reason . You would expect some audience members to not be reasonable in the heat of their passions for the favourites, but you expect better from so called learned judges. From the beginning Shrivastava and Reshmaiyya never quite fitted into the mold of unbaised judges. Even before this controversy they always looked and behaved like a couple of guys out to have fun rather than someone who has been given an esteemed role . True winning is important but at what cost?

Votes received from UP for Vinit was announced
by salim on Feb 03, 2006 08:51 AM

I watched the said episode. The percentage of votes received from UP for Vinit was announced. I am surprised that the author missed it.

This show has been a talent show earlier where the best singer won. Now that the Challenge 2005 version is based on popular votes, there would be people and participants who couldn't digest the fact that better singers can be eliminated while average move ahead.
