Paheli....huh
by v aibhav on Feb 03, 2006 07:02 AM

Such crappy movie sent to Oscars was rightly treated with outright rejection...selectors who choose movie for such awards should choose it on content and relevance but not star value...
Its a pity that a meaningful movie like black wasnt sent may be the concerned people didnt have proper "Jugaad"...huh...
and this is the reason why so much of paper, ink and webspace is devoted to such a non-issue....

Hindi Movies are crap
by milan rai on Feb 02, 2006 11:01 PM

yes i mean it, i can hardly watch any hindi movie more than for half an hour, ofcourse there r some good hindi movies which come here and then, but its very rare.

I like to watch old black and white movies , especially Raj Kapoor , satyajeet ray movies, they can be considered art not movies like shadi no 1 and no entry.

and regarding black to be send for oscars, i guess we couldn\'t have affored to , as it was inspired by Helen Kelle real life story and there has been many movies made and novel written abt her.
and we didnt even mentioned in the film credit that it has been inspired so u be the judge if the people at oscars see that movie they will know its a copy movie.

Rang de basanti is a very good movie which i saw last week , and it had a very lasting effect. i found the second half of the movie more intersting than the first half, unlike most of the viewers , the reason being it potrayed the frustration of youth very intelligently.

apart from Amir khan and sometimes rare occasions of AB, nasiruddin, anupam kher , irfan khan, there is not a single talented actor in bollywood.

those who want a change from hollywood and bollywood watch korean and iranian cinema,

paheli.....
by radha on Feb 02, 2006 07:45 PM

well I m a western girl and love hindi movies but can say that paheli really was not a great movie at all.
I also think that Hindi movies are the best but just many western people do not understand them.
For them movies have different meaning. I think Hindi cinema talks a lot about life witch is very far out. Talks about feelings relations. I mean bad and good movies are every where depends what you want to see.
BUt sure paheli was not a right thing for Oscars.

Serves us right
by Embrionic on Feb 02, 2006 06:58 PM

Firstly, I wanna ask one question to the ppl who nominate a film from India. what are u looking for?? do u send a film for it to win an oscar or are u trying to felicitate someone with the best made film.
Cuz what i feel is that two are entirely different worlds. C we need to understand that more than 90% of the judges there cannot get in terms with our lead male and female dancing in the middle of a scene, suddenly, Me agree entirely to da judges its ridiculous to them.

Wen we send a nominee frm india we need to see the judges. Most of them can relate in a much better way to the World Wars, Aparthieds, Slave Smugling, European culture, and things like that.

Now if u show an Indian village full of camels and ppl dressed as if in fancy dress compitition and then a melodramatic spirit falling in love with a stupid girl, No ways they would even dare to see the film.

No doubt it was one of the, best made films, last year...but they cant relate to it and we cant and we shouldnt blame them for it.

I feel the film that might have had a better chance o rahter would have won it was "Black" not because it was a better film but would have clicked to them..Remember Helen Keller?

Why Paheli didn't get the nomination
by Elly on Feb 02, 2006 06:12 PM

Because it doesn't fit the image Americans have of India as a poor country, an Indian MUST be in rags!Look at your past nominees. The same applies to us Europeans, the selected films, most of the time, take place during our 2 world wars or in the 50s-60s, when we looked comfortably "different" in our quaint way. We are not allowed to stray from the picture postcard, the winners are usually our (extremely talented) "sacred cows". Out of Italy's 10 wins, 4 went to Fellini and 2 to De Sica; where would my country be without Lellouch and Truffaut? Probably in touristy Montmartre with Amélie Poulain...
By the way, I found Paheli a most beautiful and well made film, it had an unmistakably Indian flavour but it was also a universal story told with talent. Pearls befors swines, maybe?

PAHELI??????????????for the Oscars????????!!!!!!!!!
by satish on Feb 02, 2006 05:33 PM

Doesn't my subject line say it all. One must be kidding to send paheli for the oscars with lots of good films like BLACK around.
Maybe movie selection is getting like cricket selections. Was the BCCI selecting films?

Paheli - Bad choice
by Nilesh on Feb 02, 2006 05:06 PM

First of all Paheli wasn't the correct choice. Black was the correct choice as it has an international look and appeal. The first important thing is that Black didn't had any songs. The story was beautiful & was presented in a beautiful way with outstanding performances by Amitabh Bachhan and Rani. How can we expect a film like Paheli and Devdas to get nomination when this films are not even liked by indians itself.
Films like K3G are put forward for nominations, then its almost impossible for india to get a nomination, forget about winning a award.
There are films made in regional languages also which are meaningful and well directed and which have the contents which can impress the jury. Its high time that the selectors in india should wake up and send meaningful films rather than sending bad typical indian films. If this continues then the jury will not even bother to see our films.
Also for a film to get a nomination it should be properly marketed, maximum members should see it so that atleast they can think on the nomination. We should make movies which are well fit for OSCARS.
Good and meaningful films with good marketing will win a award for us

natioanl award winning film should be selected
by Niranjan on Feb 02, 2006 04:38 PM

The natioanl award winning film should be selected for Oscar nomination. Is not then there is no need of national award selection. Our judgement will be in doubt.
