pehali: what a pathetic movie
by charu on Feb 07, 2006 12:43 PM

we indians cry a lot for our movies being thrown out of oscar, but did we ever tried to check the quality of the movies and the selection procedure for them.
devdas and paheli are mere costume drama that resembles best a parsian theatre of post independence era. black is a carbon copy of miracle worker. movies like "maya memsaab" and "makbool" should be send for oscar.
seriously guys .. i mean it..

Paheli.. not suitable for oscars
by Pavan on Feb 06, 2006 07:13 PM

Paheli was a well-made film. It had so many colors, very good performace by rani, some good music by mm kreem and ofcourse amol palekar's direction too. But it is not wise to be nominated for oscars. If any movie that deserved is 'Black' only. I think some politics must have happened in selecting the movie.

y oscar?
by max on Feb 04, 2006 11:13 AM

y dont we understand and accept that we are different. we make movies for indians and not people abroad.
our movie making style is different, and we love it. an oscar does not make any difference.

BTW, paheli had nothing special in it, i wonder y it was sent to oscar.

Cmon Guys
by Roshan on Feb 04, 2006 09:38 AM

This is an expected one. How could we miss to send BLACK to Oscars. This is totally unfair. Its very very hard to get a movie like BLACK in Indian Film Industry and if we take chance of missing the only oppurtunity this is what will happen. Here US people wants one small story which touches every part of characters and environment in depth. We missed out BLACK, and its time to experience "BLACK OUT" to all our dreams of Oscars. Im sorry Guys!

paheli and oscar
by yo on Feb 04, 2006 07:38 AM

did anyone ever thought that paheli could have won nomination for oscar. i agree with the guy who said that it\\\'s our fault that we send pathetic movies to committee. i would say that hazarro khwahhise aisi or swades(with better editing) would have been better choice. only indians like romantic emotional crap and happy ending and crybaby srk actor. americans like realistic movies. this is why movies like kabhi khushi kabhi gham goes super hit on box office and movies like swades hardly does average business. i just can\\\'t stand how the whole thing works

Why are we whining?
by Vikram on Feb 03, 2006 11:50 AM

Well folks..defenitely Oscars are a tribute to the best, quality cinema in the world. But why are we whining and showing uneccessary disapointment if our movie has not been selected. Maybe it is good it has not been selected. And moreover we need to get out this habit of getting a certificate from the "firang" for whatever we excel in!Why don we accept the fact that we dont make movies appeaing to the world audience. And all the efforts made by people to make innovative and good movies fall into the avant-garde category. They never find a place in the mainstream. The mainstream has huge loads of retarded "masala" the usual "pyaar-waar" and stupid song and dance sequences..and finally whole load sentimentalism...sentimentalism will not do..sensitivity will do..
Any self-respecting individual or country
will not stoop low and start begging to be noticed. We should be confident about ourselves.

Why are not we making it to the Oscars?
by Novice on Feb 03, 2006 11:47 AM

Unless we learn to step out of actors and actresses always dancing, too loud songs and forgetting the flow of the story and worry about how come the movie is going to make money not bothering much about the logic and stuff like that,we are never going to make it the oscars.I m not asking people to mimic hollywood movies(spare the action movies),but there is nothing wrong in learning from them. Its good to see some directors from South India, especially from Tamil Nadu trying to make movies out of convention ,by giving just importance to the story and the script. Its high time for Bollywood to adapt to the story ,script and only to these two the most indispensable entities of a movie.
I apologize if I sound offensive and I dont have any grudge towards any regional movie.

by cooly on Feb 03, 2006 08:56 AM

Black is a good movie ,but as far as I know it was copy of some english movie.
So, you can't send a lifted story to OSCAR.
