Paheli chosen for oscar!! once again it shows what kind of selectors are sitting in the panel. Be it cricket, be it movie industry.every where it is the same story. We can't defeat the lobby !! Black is such a powerful movie. How can selectors not select it? On the other hand, Paheli is a simple folklore told with a style. No way it is Oscar material !!
I can be 200% sure that Paheli won't win the oscar.. sorry it won't even get nominated!
biggest joke I have ever came across.. just goes to prove the point that we Indians havn't matured enough as a nation. well can any justify it..this crap can only happen in India...
Why not Black... well among other things its because its iinspired by classic hollywood cinema... and not an original film. The same reason why it couldnt enter many international festivals.
Yes, I guess Bollywood shuould now wake up and try to make sure that films like Black make to Oscar instead of thinking of sending non-sense films like Swadesh,Paheli....When I was in a flight to New York the Air-India crew played BLACK and it was so much so admired and liked by the white skinned people (Americans and europeans) that i really felt proud !! Some of them were in tears...to see the agony of rani and efforts and marvellous acting of Amitabh...!! ne wys the chalta hai attitude and director-actor favourism with some of the awards jury like filmfare has worsened the chances of good movies and actors/actresses.
I don't blame you, Bhavna, for not knowing that Black is a frame to frame copy of Miracle Teacher. This has been the best guarded secret of Bollywood. Very few people know about it but I hope that this post will make it a common knowledge. Rediff, please post it in the Message Board. Now you do not expect Hollywood to give the Best Foreign Movie Oscar to some remake of one of it's own movies.
Paheli is a brilliant movie narrated brillaintly ,BLACk is magnificient. but i guess Paheli ia a better choice as is showcases indian culture. this is based on an anecdote hence the director had less freedom . I guess it must have been a really easy decision . what i dont understand is so much hue and cry .
oscar looks for originality in the movie. so black cannot make it. india made a wise choice rather than getting humiliated at oscars that it is a screen by screen copy of a old hollywood film
Ms. Melodramatic Naive , one would not pick an unorignal/stolen entry to oscar. Helen Kellar is their girl. and Black is her story. Neither Rani's nor Amitabh's stellar performance can change that burning/true FACT. Second largest populated country cant find a TRUE original story, it had to steal( sorry I dont want to overload the world INSPIRED") from other country. Crap. What do u expect. Paheli is original indian story, stupid but original.!!!
