Paheli is probably one of the best movies this year. It definitely has a unique plot and a much more enjoyable story than the others listed above. The only thing in competition, I would say, would be Parineeta.
black is not the right choice for an oscar because it is not original. it is a copy of the helen keller movie, i am not sure if you are all aware of that. Paheli is a good choice for American Awards because it shows the culture and beauty that India holds
The selectors have made a joke out of Indian cinema. They really dont care how India is represented at the oscars. The only other movie which comes close to such a bad choice for the oscars is Jeans. do they want the rest of the world to laugh at Indian cinema? Its amazingly incomprehensible how the hell they decided to do this!
its the right choice....'black' is the most blown film ever in indian cinema...its a failure!! if anybody needs any justification, read a review by the very talented anurag kashyap
I think Black is the best of the lot for an oscar entry although Black also has its share of short comings.
If you think people would have laughed at Bhansali's Black, then wait to people's reaction to Paheli.A ghost making a woman pregnant!!I enjoyed the movie but when it came to the point that Rani got pregnant by SRK ghost...well that was too much to handle.
I think it is wrong choice. It is Boring film having no base. Black is much more better choice than PAHELI. Next year Selection committee should be more careful about their selection. I was so much surprised to see how can it ever be nominated for Oscar?
Why do we think that a person is a great actor if all he does in emotional scenes is stammer ? Why do we still think that running around trees and singing songs is international film material ? Why don't we grow up ?
What made Mr. Pande choose that one ? I think the public needs a crystal clear answer on the criteria used and how Paheli outscored the others in each of those criteria.
It is evident from the choice of the movie that politics more than anything else plays a crucial role in the selection process.
Uttarayan is a classic movie from all aspects but it lacks only 2 things : political clout in Bollywood, and it is not in Hindi.
Kudos to Vinod Pande and his team for the excellent job done in making sure that good movies are forgotten and Bollywood heroes are made out to be great actors.
