It is evident from the choice of the movie that politics more than anything else plays a crucial role in the selection process.
Uttarayan is a classic movie from all aspects but it lacks only 2 things : political clout in Bollywood, and it is not in Hindi.
Kudos to Vinod Pande and his team for the excellent job done in making sure that good movies are forgotten and Bollywood heroes are made out to be great actors.
in my opinion black should be send for oscar.phali is ok but if u honestly judge between the two ,no one is going to vote for P.(definetly except our responsible judge)
i think it is the write choice . i don't think there could be better choice than paheli . it is the hindi film containing all comedy as well as emotions.
So much is being made about Paheli being steeped in Indianness!!!!!!Now when we are nominating a film for the Oscars are we really trying to showcase a mythical India as a tourist and cultural attraction(i thought that is for the tourism deptt to do) or are trying to send a film which can seriously win!!!!!! What will win at the Oscars is a good movie ,the language of which is universal.That is what Black is all about,it is about a girl's struggles against all odds,it is about fragile relationships,it is a story of human courgae and falls and rising up again.Nad thats not all!!Seldom have we seen an Indian movie with such technical finnesse,the cinematography,the sound,setdesigning,costumes all speak of the level of filmmaking that can make people sit up.Not of course to mention that there are no songs,something which the west is yet to come to terms with. Compare it to Paheli,what does it offer????? a wafer thin storyline which is a fairy tale at best,lots of colours ,unnecessary song& dance sequences,all stretched over 2.5 HOURS!!!wow what a monumental punishment. The choice of Paheli seriously has proved that we have no intention of winning, all we want is to make a show .
to all my respected friends, who all are writing here that Paheli is deserving or not, please first understand the guideline and facts to enter in Oscar as foreignlangauage film,
as per guideline the film should have our tradition & culture, that's the reason last time we had LAGAN, the followd By SWASH and now Paheli, BLACK is not an indian filmm at all, it is no where close to culture and for Amricans that's not new story, magic of India or ghost of India, village of India that's what they understand, so please get your facts clear before start talking about shiti film like BLACK against Paheli.
I Think It was deserving Though One may Disagree withit.Paheli's USP is its Simplicity.As it was fairy tale it could have shown lot more Magic & funny act performed by Ghost, which Could have PLeased the masses. But The movie was made throughly well and ignored About Fun & Magic. Important Thing was to give the message about woman in India and there condition, in which it succeded Quite A lot.
no, Paheli is not the right choice....dull, boring film....Page 3 would have been an exciting choice. But having said that, it probably will get nominated because of these very reasons!!
