My opinion on this matter is that if 'Black' didn't deserve to be the Indian entry for Oscars then no film in the history of Indian cinema did; forget about 'Paheli'.
With a movie like 'BLACK' among the nominations-with stellar performances by Amitabh, Rani and the little girl, how could PAHELI sail through as India's nomination for the OSCAR? This is indeed ridiculous!!! This goes to show how much influence masala movies have had on the mindset of the judges. This is simply crazy and unbelievable.
It is sorry to say that it is remake of kannada film called NAGAMANDALA.so please give us the explaination that how it has been nominated to oscars 2006 as an Indian film.Shame for selectors and other panel who have selected this movie for oscars.Hope Nagamandala was the better film and, was better choice.
i can't believe these guys are nominating such a crappy film to represent the creative culture of our country, instead of such an amazing film which keeps you from blinking, like Black. Pathetic.
We all know that to get to the top of the Oscars, the film we nominate should appeal to the Western tastes rather than just our Desi senses; "representing the Indian ethos" may be good justification for selection, but the prime criteria should be the ability to win the prize; that way, it wouldn't be harmful if we have some (say 50%) foreign representation in our commitee which does the selection for the Oscars; what do u say?
