I am surprised for this choice. Once when we had a very compelling movie, which hit hard both in mind and heart and is not usual Bollywood (I hate the word) dance and songs ... as also is original with best direction, story and acting ... BLACK ... is there anywhere else to look at?
I guess in our own upmanship where we rever just for being nominated to be nominated for oscar, we might not win it anytime. That is the reason we dont win it and that is the reason we donot get the best out there to see the world and appretiate.
A bad decision and a bad PR and ofcourse bad politics if that is the case.
This is absolutely absurd... in a year which sees classics like Hazaron Khwaishen Aisi, Black and (by popular perception & hype) Mangal Pandey (they send Devdas didnt they?)... Paheli is India's entry for the oscars.
Do the "powers-to-be" actually understand the depth of cinema, or is it just that deserts and colourful dresses and SRK, enough criteria for a movie to encapsulate the ethos of India?
Curiously a movie as sensitive and technically brilliant as Black or as poignantly thought-provoking and lyrical as Hazaron Khwaishen Aisi get ignored. If this is so frustrating for me, I wonder what the directors of these films must be feeling now.
Why bother making decent cinema anyway?
The only thing that works here is sex and SRK right? If only it worked the same at oscars... we'd be boasting of as many oscars as the filmfares that tumble from the cramped space on SRK's big bunglow!
Is Shah Rukh Khan using his cloud over the indian film faternity to get his home production nominated to the oscar? I am a great fan of SRK but surely BLACK deserves to be our nomination to the Oscar\\\'s.. Movies should not be nominated on which culture it comes from... but the performance which moves the entire Nation.. Mr AB Sr.. Had I been given the choice you would have my vote! Mr Bansali I am proud that you are an Indian to come up with such fine direction only you could have come up with such brilliant performances from our talented Stars Mr Bachan n Miss Rani Mukherjee
its incredible n outrageous how a film such as paheli has been selected as india's entry to the oscar's.to say that i m speechless would b an understatement..egregious would even perhaps sound too mild a word to describe my emotions as i fail to understand what went into the minds of those who selected this nomination...BLACK should have been selected hands down with SWADES giving it stiff competition..whoever that gentleman from the selction committee was, who said that they selcted an INDIAN film depicting indian ethos n tradtions needs his ECG checked...if his heart really beats so hard for the INDIAN tradition n culture then i m sure his brain has definitely stopped working..grow up people..times have changed n if u fail to appreciate breathtaking n magnanimous films such as SWADES n BLACK,then i m really ashamed to be called an INDIAN, to ve denied these films an entry to the OSCAR's..still can't get over it..!!!
Its unbelievable how low ppl can go... Or how influencedppl are of the rat race... Personally I believe that even though Paheli is bearable, it is not the movie to run for Oscar... The ideal choice shud be Black... Everyone who has seen Black has come up with a comment that it is the best movie to go for Oscar...
And they say that Indian movies dont get an oscar... well the answer is, if u send movies like this, then there are no chances that it will get an Oscar..
