What a Boast !!

Mr. Durbar,

Nice to hear that you at least know the league of people to compare yourself with. It is a good excercise in improving yourself. Of course your title song for Kisna was good, but to think u are better than AR Rehman. Give me a break. To actually say this in an interview - well, that amounts to monumental stupidity.

I did admire ur Devdas score, but don't kid yourself by thinking it's better than anything Rehman makes.
Have u ever composed anything other than boring folk music? Ever tried ur hands on a few instruments? I was shocked do death when they give u the award for HDDCS over Taal. That was Good Recycling winning over Brilliant Innovation.

Foriegners?!Please. U make me laugh with that ridiculous tirade. Do u know what it takes for music to be globally recognized? Ask Rehman or Ilaya Raja.

But yes, a few days of internship at Rehman's hands can sure make u better. You have talent kid. Don't waste it by giving yourself foul airs. And if u tire of music, try ur hand at comedy. U sound good at it.

To all AR Rehman fans, two apologies: One on behalf of a musician who doesn't know his place. The second for retorting when this interview isnt even worth a comment.

Roja is enough to all compositions of Ismail
by ejazuddin on Jun 21, 2006 08:28 PM

I am a gr8 fan of ar rahman. I also used to respect Ismail Darbar, but m very much shocked to c this. He just composed only 2 to 3 movies and thinks as if he is the only persons knowns music in India. A R Rahman has been giving excelent scores since more than a decade. His first score Roja itself a masterpiece which surpass Ismail's all compositions. One artist should respect the other one's creations rather than feeling jealousy. ARR is the nations biggest asset who is making Indian music a worldwide phenomenon.

HDDCS was better than Taal
by Abhijit on Jun 15, 2006 11:39 PM

I agree to this fact. Filmfare awards expectedly went to Taal. The national award went to HDDCS.

But I think Saathiya was better than Devdas.

Overall it is true that Ismail KNOWS music and so does Rehman. But Rehman's use of technology has been over-celebrated even when his songs are not upto his own very high standards.

true !!!

a.r. rahman is a very good music director.
ismail darbar is also very good, but we don't
expect such words from a composer. this is
shocking, how come a wise man can be so proud
of himself ???

but why is a.r. rahman so popular ? he leart
western classical music from oxford university,
in his music he uses western classical, indian
folk music etc to give an unique taste. according
to my southern friends, illaya raja is far better
then a.r. rahman, but why he is not that famous in
west ? cause his music got indian origin ...
a.r. rahman's music got tastes from west,
u know he does rigorous research on folk songs
and recreate them ??? that's why we get a different
taste in his music ... but i like his music and
the person he is ...

a person who has won praise from all around the world and most importantly loved and respected by the people of India... He is a person promoting Inbdian music abroad.. if u can do it do it prove ur self Dont cry like a girl and complain

darbar's nonsense
by Prathyaksha on Feb 06, 2006 03:09 PM

If bosting were a crime then darbar would have been in the jail very long ago. I respected ismail darbar until i read this story. This man is comparing himself with a legend RAHMAN. He says his music is much better than rahman's, I laughed all the night after reading it. ofcourse his music is good but not as rahman's. And talking about the foreign people, Rahman had created Roja, Bombay, Rangeela and many great works before foreigners recognized him. Darbar's statement is just like shoaib akthar saying his batting is better than sachin tendulkar's. And Ismail dont think only you have 'akal'. Kyun tum yeh sab bolke logo ke nazaron mein gir rahe ho.

what a shame!
by hisham on Dec 31, 2005 02:00 PM

Before this, I had a great opinion on Ismail Darbar, but now, he's just like a child comparing their creative work with other children. Come on! Taal and Saathiya won the Filmfare Awards ahead of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas respectively. ARR is a God's gift to mankind. Don't compare yourself to the living legend, Padmashree ARR. In Kisna, many reviewers have opined that Hum Hain Is Pal Yahan is the best song in the album. This is definitely joke of the year!!!
