Dear all, i went to see the movie right from Delaware to Newjersey USA ... is it worth the ticket money ? now here comes the answer in Shankar's way, (Me) yeah it is worth the work done by the team who has done a fantastic job, absolutely undoubtful ... no-one can question of Shankar's ability for why he is one of the best Tamil directors, (Myself) hey dude comeon we never expect such a big big dialogues which makes us yawning, that horrible patching of songs into the movie which didnt fit, and that "Thivaiyaaru" sequence, boss you are doing movie for a mass with a message to convey, do you think u have conveyed what you want to , holy crap ... is this the same Shankar who has given "Mudalvan" I doubt, the movie is a mix of all his three mega Hits Gentleman, Indian & Mudalvan, i accept there is Water scarcity in Tamil Nadu not for Creativity and Story ... (One of me) Annaachi, it is all about business, nothing else nobody does a movie for people, everything is money, dollars & rupees ... undoubtedly Shankar is a big business man, he know whether a movie will make money or will it flop, right from his first movie he has shown that temperment ... this is the truth ... (Me) comeon guy
Anniyan is a poor remix of English movies "Seven" and "Primal Fear" with a dose of Shankar's own "Indian". The movie starts of with Rules Ramanujam frustrated about the happenings around him and then Anniyan steps in to murder the wrong doers in the style of the pyscho killer in the movie "Seven" the victims being sinners of seven deadly sins as per the bible. To save the hero from embarrasment, a dose of "Primal Fear" is added to show that the hero indeed suffers from Multiple personality disorder. To justify the hero's action, there is a scene of social crimes along with the death of the hero's sister which is shifted from Indian and thus you have an "IMPORTED INDIAN" called "ANNIYAN". The highlight is some superb photography by Ravi Varman/Manikandan,stunts particulary the fights with the Vietnam stunt team and power performance by Vikram and Prakash Rai. The major goof ups are Nedumudi Venu being wasted, no reason as to why Anniyan spares Sada, walks freely in to the stadium for an interview. The music and back ground score is so loud, we get to feel that we are watching a Chiranjeevi movie. Infact, Shankar would have really missed A.R.Rahman A big let off by a good Director
Anniyan (Stranger) in Marmadesam (Mysterious Land) When I saw Shankars Anniyan today (2nd day of release), I could not help remembering the superhit TV Serial Marmadesam, telecast in Sun TV in 1997 to 1999, written by Indira Soundarajan, directed by Naaga, and produced by (K.Balachanders)MinBimbangal
Both these stories deal with Multiple Personality Disorder.(MPD)
The story is that the hero suffers from MPD that leads to creation of another personality which punishes everyone who does mistake
In Marmadesam- Vidathu Karruppu(Mysterious Land - the Black will not leave you), it was Karruppu and in Anniyan it is Anniyan
What is more interesting is the fact that the character in Indra Soundarajan's novel was called as "Karrupu" meaning black where as Shankar calls his character "Stranger in Black"
The second similarity is the fact that the hero is a afraid of many things, including expressing his love to the heroine
In both stories, the hero is affected in Child hood
In both stories, the character has a animal as vehicle. While it was a white stallion for "Karrupu" it is Ox for Anniyan

hmm... agreed that XXX-2 Revolution is bad with its stupid logic... but hey come on... sci-fi fiction movies are simply sci-fi... they don't start with a person living in a village eating curd rice and rassam... suddenly developing into a super macha called anniyan who doesn't fear death kicks of 50 karate black belt guys.. also the entire tamil nadu police force watches him in giving a lecture on Nationalism and in the end manages to run off the scene leaving the TN police gasping for breathe..
The Indian cinema definitely has its own mould, however we have had fantastic films like apu triology, nayakan to name a couple which without any special effects etc have done extremely well and have carved a place in history.. The whole idea is having a sense of realism or consistency in the film..
anniyan has special effects comparable to hollywood films, but what it lacks is good story telling and realism.. the story telling of matrix, star wars is so good that it makes you think .. could this be possible .. without you even trying to reason with logic..
and for the record.. america's military technology is 20 years ahead of all techs in the world.. so there is some logic in I-Day...
I just don't get it. Simply don't get it. Why does the writer say Boys is a horrible movie? And sleazy? In what way? What was picturised by Shankar is what's happening everywhere among youths around the world. So what's the big deal? Are u saying that you've never watched porno, read playboy, etc. Come on, grow up for once.
As far as I'm concerned, all those ppl who criticised and still do criticise Shankar for Boys, either need to get a life or remove the false veil they put on their face in the name of morality!!!
Boys is undoubtedly Shankar's most realistic movie to date.
Wow....Shankar made it and proved he still have the genius element in him....He is the best in India for his creativity...Vikram worked hard for his fights and the sequence made with the help of vietnam guy was amazing....Nokia and Remon songs are the blast...Shankar gives conceptual and real world explanations for Multiple personalities.....overall...Great movie ..worth 2 times atleast....
