Never ever written something good about good cinema.

Come on Raja Sen... I have seen you writting off many good films and new ideas in movies. You have written so many wrong things about a movie like Sarkar. Have ever think that what it takes to make a movie like Sarkar or for that matter any other movie?

You seems to be like Khalid Mehmood of Filmfare, who used to be a very hardcore critic of films. But when he started making movie, everyone knows what has he delivered? Fiza, Tehzeeb, Silsiley and one more some idiotic movie.

So Please think before writing anything about anything dear.

Bang on target review!

For those of you who are Aamir loyalists and trying to justify that either the film is not that bad, or the author missed out the point or it should be at least watched once or whatever, the bottomline is: the author wrote what the author felt. Co-incidently most people share the same opinion as the author. If you be truthful and unbiased to yourself, you will will admit that its a third grade film.

very unfortunate

i read the critic article, fine and very unfortunate
i think the film isnt so bad , as a whole it is ok .
Aamirkhan and Toby has done a good job , lets appretiate good work, compared to a lot of unrealistic ,highly artificial movies that release
day by day in bolywood ...this stands with a difference.

Shameful
by Shrujal Vakharia on Aug 27, 2005 02:12 PM

Yes, its a really really bad film. Didn't expect this from Aamir Khan especially after four years, which makes it even more frustrating. It is simply too bad for someone beating the drums of perfectionism and delivering such a poor film.

Defintiley NOT a Disaster !!!
by Satish Chander on Aug 27, 2005 01:33 PM

I think the critic has been too harsh on a film which I agree is not a classic but surely not a wash-out either. Aamir has put in a good performance and the movie surely is much better than the so many crap masala movies that bollywood churns out every year.
And for God's sake stop criticisng A.R Rahman's music. I cant believe Mr. Sen could say that the background track was sleepy !!! One comes out of the theatre humming the "Manga ...Mangal.." song. Such is the impact of Rahman's composition.
The movie's main drawback is an insipid screenplay but inspite of this the movie is worth watching once.
Mr Sen my request to you would be to be reasonable in your crticism.

stupid review
by Raj on Aug 27, 2005 01:14 PM

That was the stupidest review I have ever read! If Rediff (or any
other portal) wants to be a genuine news website, please
maintain some standards in chosing the articles you publish.
Opinion are like *******, everyone will have one, but don't rub
them on others. Isn't a review is an unbiased opinion to help the
readers?

Devendra Prabhudesai
Indian perspective
by Devendra Prabhudesai on Aug 27, 2005 12:42 PM

Of 100 books written on 1857 so far, 95 have been written by the British. So it is in a way natural that their point of view will be taken more seriously. This indifference by Indian authors to 1857 can be attributed to our traditional hatred of history, which starts from our school-days, where an individual who loves history is considered abnormal.

While it is true that a lot in the film has been glorified, I still feel that we should believe the makers' perspective on what was India's first war of independence. We shouldn't toe the British view and slam it as a mutiny, but unfortunately we are doing just that. Things haven't changed much even after 58 years of independence.

If Ketan Mehta and his team claim to have based their film on extensive research, then let's believe them, instead of believing the British and their sycophants. Whether the British like it or not (and it is obvious that they don't), the fact is that Mangal Pandey fired the first shot in our first war of independence.

Agreed that it is not a Lagaan. But then, a Lagaan can't be made everytime.

aamir khan as mangal pandey
by leslin on Aug 27, 2005 12:19 PM

Mangal Pandey is a good movie, but it could have been improved much more.most of the characters haven't got the roles they actually deserve, and it seems as though the makers of the movie have just hurried with the script.aamir's and toby's performance is truly commendable, but it seems as though all the other characters like Amisha and Rani have been ignored.
