Product is excellent -Promotion side is lacking

Yuva is a very good film. I would ask young people to watch it. You don't take a direct lesson from a film but you can get a hint from a film. Yuva is one of those kinds. If the film is not doing well, it is not only biased press that is responsible but also the promotion company (if there is such a thing) has not done justice. I would have advertised the film as with 60% population less than 35 yr age in India, it is time for today's Yuva to get in touch with reality. Understand the disillusioned (Abhishek's role and Vivek's to certain extent -- one resorted to violence the other to run away from the country). Students dont have to rebel as shown in the film, but act responsibly when they go to polling booths and vote. When they go to dean and ask for changes in the universitys way of functioning. What they have shown with Ajays role to understand what was said in pancha tantra. Alone a blade of grass is weak --- but when rolled into a rope along with bundles of grass blades, it can tie a lion. It is great message, the promotion was really sub par. The actors were graceful and direction is first rate. Go see it.

YUVA is not a flop. They're saying that just to damage the film's prospects
by A Supporter on Jun 03, 2004 12:11 AM

I know! I read an article recently by Subhash K. Jha saying that Yuva is not a flop, but in fact is doing quite well. Jha said that movie reports are written by Mumbai-centric people and that, nine times out of ten, are wrong. He then went on to say that many of these reports are written by strongly-biased people. Films like Devdas were declared flops for weeks before they were declared huge hits.

Bollywood insiders are claiming that Mani's film is a flop simply because they don't want him nor the film to succeed. There's a lot of jealously running rampant through the industry.

YUVA..... A VERY GOOD FILM
by ritu jain on Jun 02, 2004 11:53 PM

Yuva is a wonderful movie. Its certainly a much better film than MAI HOO NAA. It gives a message to young generation that it is in our hands whether we make our life good or bad. I have seen the movie and I have all praise for Mr Mani Ratnam. This is the movie which will do wonders for Mr Abhishek bachaan. Infact all of them have acted well but Abhishek is just brilliant in the movie.

Mani, we don't deserve
by Shiv on Jun 02, 2004 11:01 PM

Mani, Wish that like in Atlas Shrugged, you could also just shrug it all away. This audience does not deserve you.

Yuva is a brilliant movie. Sure it has its faults, but it's characters are finely etched, its cinematography is excellent, its music is debatably good, and in moments where it is subtle, there are metaphors to be found. Of course, the guy behind me with his girlfriend did not think so, and neither do any of the so-called film critics. But it is their loss, and the loss of the people who do not choose to watch and appreciate it.

I do not find it surprising, the media-portrayed sniggering. It is the same media, and its audience, that after all finds it more relevant to read about Salman Khan's new girlfriend than get worried about soldiers' deaths in Kashmir or the hundred other things that should matter to this country. Yuva is an expression of art, of a national ethos that should be, but unfortunately is not.

Yuva is an appeal, an anthem and a celebration of what things should be, and could be. That is its romance.

Carry on, Mani. There are a few faithful who will hang on.

Yuva & Ayutha Eluthu: A Class Act
by Abdul Samed on Jun 02, 2004 10:18 PM  | Hide replies

I have seen the Tamil version (Ayutha Eluthu). I saw it 2 times and planning to see Yuva this weekend. I really enjoyed the film. You cannot expect the students to change everything by contesting in just one election....As it is rightly said, it's just a beginning.

Way to go Mani sir....all the best for the entire crew
