Mani's movies have late-pickup like ROJA
by Ajay on Jun 04, 2004 06:28 PM

I remember, the movie ROJA opened with a lukewarm response and slowly picked up within a week and went on to be a biggest hit in the theatres in that season.
YUVA maybe like that, its Tamizh version is!!
Mani is brilliant film-maker, NO DOUBT, maybe due to linguistic hatred by bolloywood wud block him.

Mani Ratnam: Don't kill Yuva
by Uma on Jun 04, 2004 04:30 PM

I saw Yuva. I had great expectations, it being a Mani Ratnam film. I wouldn't say it was completely satisfying but it was still aeons ahead of all the trash dished out by Bollywood!

It was a brave, different movie that suffered from meandering a bit and, i felt, an ending that was too idealistic to be true. And yet, it was gripping. Not once did I feel I should get out of the theatre. The acting was fabulous. The music was catchy and the plot made sense. The Calcutta setting was captured wonderfully.

It may have been a BAD Mani Ratnam movie, but give me that any day over all the other asinine tripe Bollywood foists on viewers. Other film-makers should aspire to making a movie as "bad" as Yuva. Then we might get some decent cinema.

aight...first and foremost...what are u critics smoking when u write off such wonderful movies?? i feel completely horrible that people can't appreciate mani ratnam's work. first...it was an attack on dil se...and now yuva. what's up with u?? ugh...aight, sorry, had to get that off my chest. anyway...this is a great movie...from start to finish. trust me, i'm not the type of person that only likes this type of film or only likes that type of film...i like entertainment...period. whether its a main hoon na or a yuva or a masti...they entertain...in differing categories, so u shouldn't try to compare em. i have a much longer list of garbage movies i can't tolerate...but i do have an appreciation of good cinema...and yuva belongs right up there. word to the wise: go see yuva and forget about the reviews...judge for urself.

Yuva deserves applaud!!!
by op on Jun 04, 2004 06:30 AM

I think Yuva was awesome movie n is one of the best movie this year. I donno y people only like romantic movie; just put srk in a movie n it will be a big hit, but people don't see that the political movies like Yuva or war movie like LOC show the truth. I think there is a lot of effort put in this movie n surely diserves an applaud.

For the last few days i am seeing all these media sources and some people also is trying hard to pull down Yuva's success. But this is one of the very good movies i've seen so far.
I will like to comment on some of its scenes and performances. Ajay Devgan is steady in his role. Day by day he is maturing into that type of actor who has the versatility of playing ,from serious to comic characters, from angry portrayal to youthful types.
But no message or any comment on "yuva" is complete without the praise of the acting of Abhishek Bachhan. He is just superb.
to speak of scenes, the last one, where there is a very impressive conversation between Om puri and Ajay Devgan, Ajay Devgan leaves no loopholes of criticism . Excellent!!!! To me that scene is the asset of the film.
So u all who are just critisizing "yuva" for just the sake of seeing their names on the website--- please stop these nuisances!

In Recent times YUVA is one of the best movies I have ever seen , excelling in all aspects and has the makings of a super-duper hit.
Parallely I feel due to some invsible reason, right from day one , the whole Rediff Team is up and against YUVA, Indulging in Slanderous campaign to ensure that YUVA doesnt get its due.

Yuva !!

I believe the basic idea underlying the movie is worth appreciating. Mani has tried to tell youth of the country that instead of crticising the politics they should come up and enter politics. Youth can make a difference only thing is one has to initiate. This is what he has tried to show by showing some youths being elected in the election in the climax of the movie. Thus its a movie worth appreciating.

Itz a good movie, tried differently from all other bollywood so called movies, but Mr.Mani Ratnam u disappointed us in terms of screenplay. All I can tell is I have wasted $8.00 to watch this movie.
