yuva is a wonderful movie
by Rinku Chakravarti on Jun 03, 2004 10:17 AM

when i readi the reviews on Yuva, it reiterated one thing that i have suspected all along. Movie critics dont understand a good movie.
I have a soft corner for the movie, having been born and spent a good deal of my chodhood in Kolkata. But my appreciation of Yuva goes far beyond that. And its just not me- colleugues, friends, everyone have asked me in complete bewilderment why Hum Tum got great reviews, Main Hu Na declared a Hit , but Yuva castigated for minor slips.

Is it a conspiracy - I dont know. I hope not. but its either that or a much needed film appreciation course for the movie crirics that seem to float around - dime a dozen.

I dont know what these trade magazines write. YUVA is a hit in Bangalore. I can see that from the fact that I caould not get a ticket for 2 weeks in any picture-hall.

Yuva was stillborn

How can you "kill" a movie which is already dead?
Ratnam's "stillborn" Yuva, though with a relevant theme, is pathetic in execution. A total waste of the 150 Rs I payed to watch it.

I partially agree with you, Mani is a guy who is sturdy on his decission and ideas and will not change his mind to suite what others need, but gives what he thinks. This is commercially not viable thats why it does not fare in box office. But as a painter by myself i wish to say that, i paint what comes to my mind and what gives me satisfaction, there are few people who admire my paintings and many who does not like my paintings, but i have to accept both the facts but i must not change completely to what others want but to make sure that my next painting is admired by few more people, i think thats what mani is and thats what he will do. I am really happy that people see it as a Manirathnam's movie rather than some actor or actress movie. I can say that he has still not come to a level of an international director like Sheker Kapoor, but he still can do it.

by nidhi on Jun 03, 2004 09:47 AM

nothing is wrong with yuva-a good film with effective message-but what i could'nt unstd. is the stand taken by the fairer papers like the TIMES OF INDIA and DAINIK BHASKAR against another film MAIN HOON NA.what has MHN got to do with YUVA!why are they demoting MHN-for the not so good performance of YUVA!how could a fun film like MHN be bashed for avg.response to a realistic film like YUVA! and where were they when DIL SE did'nt fare well in india!how could these intellectual authorities forget their responsibilities and act in such spoil sport manner of NDA after losin elections!
sad,really sad.

ITS A BEAUTIFUL FILM....mani ratnam has handled it with great professionalism....the critics need to undergo a reorientation course....the cast has performed admirably...abhishek has finally done it...rani remains the 'queen of acting'....an apt message to the masses that the future of the country lies with 'yuva'.......gb

Yuva is for Today's Youngsters to produce tomorrow's leaders
by Amol Sawaikar on Jun 03, 2004 07:39 AM

I am India resident staying in malaysia and was eager to know when would Yuva, The Mani Ratnam's movie would be shown here in theatres..

I think there are few directors who have emerged out of the usual Bollywood.. Love Love movies.... and that is Mr. Mani Ratnam.. I would like to compare the screenplay to that like the English movies, which tend to keep you glued to the screen and hear each and every dialogue. said. I loved the way the story has been taken through.. I appreciate the work done by all of the actors and actresses.. equally.. start cast was simply very appropriate.. has to be..!!!
The music is very soothing.. with a mix from old folk style.. to the modern day.. Disco.. Although I would say few clips coudl have been avoided, but then you need returns and commercialisation is part of movies in India. which needs to be accepted fact..
The best part of the movie is the Theme about sacrifics which people need to do to give a better tomorrow.. IT really makes you think once you have seen the movie.. which is what I love to do.. I think it is high time, people in our country realise the importance of their country being in right & responsible hands.

Maniratnam
by Anil kumar on Jun 03, 2004 04:21 AM

I never expected a film like Ayutha Ezhuthu from Maniratnam. It is only sex & violence.not a quality movie. We have plenty of other directors to make such movies like Mr.Ram gopal Verma...
