I agree with all the names..But I think some names have been missed. Like Kamal Hassan (who has done all the kinds of roles - take Sagar, Sadma, Hey Ram to name a few), Smita Patil (for me the one of the best female actress in Bollywood ever) and Shabana Azmi (another great actress).
You talk about staying the longest? HEllo...MD has been here for over 15 yrs and has consistently been at the top.....I would love to see Matondkar do that....*rolleyes*.....I don't even know if she has any worthwhile movies in the future...and Urmi is sooo not consistent....watched Deewangee? Or Deewane? YUCK performances!

What are you trying to convey?The article doesn't compare the life span of the actors in any way.No doubt Madhuri has been a rage and will be remembered for her fantastic innigs as a fine performer.
In fact Madhuri has been there for little more than 15 years now.Matondkar hasn't been there for that long,but what is commnedable is her sense of being different in not these four films alone but others which the article doesn't mention.
It is easy to pin point bad perormances like Deewangee and Deewane etc(I'll add more Daud.Kunwara, Mast..where there is more exposure than acting)..but then even Madhuri's Kishen Kanhaiyya,Jeevan ek Sangharsh,Zindagi ek Jua ,Arzoo to name a few were not good.What however remains is the fact that Madhuri has been outstanding in many other films.She has done that in an incredible 15 years.
The same applies to Urmila too.No one can be good all the time.She has been superb in her relatively short span.
Madhuri being damn good didn't really get be different but Urmila did and did it well.The reason may be largely Ram Gopal Varma and his truly different set of films(irrespective of what a gossip mongerer here talks about.."why" he takes her)
Interesting article. I agree with your list of actors who dare to be different. It is very rare indeed to find contemporary actors and actresses in Bollywood who try different methods and research their roles in order to portray a unique blend of characters. Most of them to be quite honest, are not qualified to call themselves actors and I don't care how popular they are. Your list is impressive.
Lets get one thing straight.An otherwise well written article was spoilt by not acknowledging the fact that Ajay Devgan is not versatile(different as you say).At least that's what the indication is that.Ironically,every single film you mention( where he has dared to be different) is where he was widely accepted and successful with.You should have included him in the list in fact.
And finally I have nothing against the other actors you mention with him(who are repetitive),but he certainly doesn't deserve the disgrace of being put in the same category.Please check that.I am no fan of his,but Devgan is certainly someone with a difference in most of his films.
The rest of the stuff is good.Aamir and AB along with other legends are well mentioned.Ofoucrse not to forget the extremely talented and truly different Urmila Matondkar.Arguably one of the most versatile and best actresses ever.
99% of urmila's movies have been produced by Ram Gopal Verma and you can guess why he chooses only her? Please, please for god's sake dont take her name along with biggies like Dilip kumar, Naseruddin shah, AB etc. Its an embarassing fact that you actually could sense some acting in Rangeela ! The woman has a face naturally incapable of expressions and when she opens her mouth, hell breaks loose..that whay she was ok in Bhoot coz she keeps her mouth shut for the most part. The only movies she got a few expressions right was Pinjar !!
You are talking about versatality and you dont mention Madhuri Dixit ? Its a shame ! Remember Tezaab, Prahaar, Beta, Anjaam, HAHK, Mrityudand, Lajja, Devdas ?? Let me know if you need more exmaples
so many actors are left who are always characters given to them.so many character artists are there like Pran,Balraj Sahni,Amrish Puri, Paresh rawal and not to forget actress like meena kumari, madhubala, nargis etc.At their peaks so many other actors have lived different sheds. Vinod khanna gave too many different sheds, see him as stern inspector in inkaar,deluded husband in shaq and his performance in achanak,his comedy in amar akbar anthony,muquadr ka sikandar.Dharmendra toois versatile in anupama,chupke chupke,shoely,haqeeqat.who can forget rekha of khoobsurat,ghar and umraojan.Raj kapur was same in awara and abdulah? means to say that competent actors always gave powerful performance. even typed raj kumar was so different in mother india,dil apna preet prai, dil ek mandir than vaqt,saudagar,lalpathar. then ashok kumar was so different & always character than actor himself. sukanya is on mistaken as Om puri was not in premrog.then in non hindi cinema we have uttam kumar,mamooti,mohan lal,kamal hasan.Ocourse Dilip kumar can be said pioneer and original as mostly he has enacted sheds which are examples for others as when they get tough thing they have example to get inspiratioin
