Swades

Thank God. At least some one in the media says some positive words about Swades. I think Swades is going to follow the path of films like 'Mera Naam Joker' and 'Pyasa' which bombed on the box office but are considered to be classics today.
The writer is right when he says that Indian Audiences are not ready for movies like 'Swades' and most of us can appreciate only spicy 'Main Hoon Na' or overly saccharinated 'Veer Zaara'.
God help 'Swades'

The WAR

That was a beautifully articulated defense of the movie... but alas .. no matter how u wrap ur comments in the best of words u can find... the conflict stays... this conflict has little to do with this movie.. but this battle is raging between the warriors of each cause... the two religions have changed there names many times.. some times its b/n the idealists and practicals sometimes b/n spiritualists and materailists... and mind u no body has won as yet.. and probably no one would ever win...

Hello

It is said very correctly that SWADES in all about India today. Till today each n every person is aware of news technologies though he is from a small village or a metro. But the main problem is "who will bell the cat?". All of us know everything but who will lead the job? when this question arises we take a step back n just justify ourselves that whatever is going on , its O.k , its like that only, we can never change .................... etc etc. Its not that we lack potentials but we need to awake character like MOHAN BHARGAV from ourselves. We r having all the qualities but lacks in leadership quality . we r afraid of taking risks.

But one thing we should always remember that whatever we lose the final result will be ours. But despite of knowing all this facts still we'll just praise the movie for the excellant performance of Shahrukh , good direction of Ashutosh, good music. We'll go on guessing whether it will get OSCAR award or not.

But how many of us will really act like MOHAN BHARGAV? Will we ever do justice to this film by acting on the message given in the movie?

I agree with the writter..
If swades fails in the box office.. it means tht our audience r not ready for movies of such diameters...

And frm my side..it was one of the finest Hindi film i have ever watched..(probably better thn Lagaan)

And this is the first time i am reading a worthwhile film review frm rediff..CONGRATULATION Omar Ahmed....
and thanks...

We need a mature (Swadesi) audience for Swades!
by ankush on Dec 21, 2004 08:35 AM

Well commented Omar!

You're right when you say that the film has come a little too early for the Indian audience.

I have not seen the movie but am aware of the attitude that the indian audience (esp. the youth) carries to the cinema.

I think its time the audience grows up for the cinema that has come off age.

Meaningful movies
by Balakrishna on Dec 21, 2004 07:34 AM

After seeing swadesh I felt their are some directors and actors who are really trying to show true India, their people, their attitude towards life and society. As movies is major media wherein it reaches to a common people no matter what the religion, caste ,rich or poor. These type of movies will definitely compel all of us to sit and think once "what exactly are we doing for our country, our people" After watching this movie even if one person understand his/her responsibility towards the country and the people, I think that will make lot of difference in our Country. Hats off to director and actors who had taken enough care to give such a beautiful and meaningful movie to us.

Great Movie!
by Nabeel on Dec 21, 2004 06:33 AM

As I enjoyed all 3+ hours of this very different yet very meaningful movie, I couldn't stop thinking how unready the indian masses were for it. I had just seen a well-reviewed movie (by IndiaFM) like Musafir, which could be easily one of the worst movies I have ever seen; An overly pretentious movie full of sex and violence without a meaning in sight, but the type of movie that is disrupting the movie taste of India.

Swades is a masterpiece, full of emotions, truth and laughter. A movie that forces Indian film makers to innovate and work harder than film makers such as the makers of Musafir, who try to profit from the uneducated masses of India, further solidifying a reason to watch and understand a movie like Swades.

Swades Reviews

I agree with Omar Ahmed. Swades is one of the most realistic movie made in recent times with substance in it.. ... It will take some time for indian and overseas (indian) audience to digest films like these...one of the reason is probably since they hve seen srk in trashy roles in films starting from dil to pagal hai... to all the way till veer zara...he has been doing same old roles...its very easy to fool ppl by making those films.. showing lot of melodrama.. and triangle love stories.. with rich music n rich punjabis...n e ways..back to the topic.. Swades is a 4 1/2 star movie... with lot of meaning to it..and 2 thumbs up to srk for giving such a powerfull performance...
