i was not too keen on watching the film after i read nikhat kazmi's review in the TOI on sunday. she panned it saying that it looked like 'one of those documentaries that we used to be played before a movie in cinema halls.' She also said that its long....n we get to see things we usually get to see in our everyday lives, and that it wasnt so thrilling as Lagaan. Even Rediff panned the film man!! long moral story eh?
but when i saw the film, i was floored..... the film's an achievement. gowarikar has so subtly conveyed a message of nationalism...its beautiful. the best thing is that it isnt loud and that it doesnt have cliched dialogues that a patriotic film usually has.
abt srk: i cudnt biliv it. i didnt think much of his skills as an actor since he used to do only loverboy roles, but this film proves he's got the talent. if only he experiments...!
the love story too, was diff. n how. the couple connect on a mental level...n the whole thing was done nicely without getting mushy at all....
we get lotsa mushy crap from bollywood very little original stuff....n we complain!! but when an honest, well craftd is made, its panned.
so damm ironic....
