Yes, if they have a good director to take out the best from them.
No, if they are left on their own or a work with an average/poor director.
The best example is Aishwarya. She is her best in HDDCHS, Devdas and Taal. But she is pathetic in all her other movies, be it her home production Dil Ka Rishta, or her other films like Aaa ab laut chale etc.
What kind of a generalization is that??Models too are normal people.Just because they walk on the ramp(you seem to tlak of ramp models)doesn't mean they "can" or "cannot" act.Acting depends on personal abilities rather than the professional background of the person.Such meaningless statements are a waste.Some models act well,some are okay while others are pathetic.So do not generalize models as good or bad actors.Period.
What seems to be the problem? Yes models do act and can be extremely successful. Just look around the many that you have named and a few others that have not listed. Its just a question of talent, practice, conditioning, environment and opportunity. Models can be great actors.
Whether or not models can act depends partly on the director's acumen and partly on the actor's (model's) capacity. Several models have proved their mettle in the past e.g. Jackie Shroff, Meenakshi Seshadri, Juhi Chawla.
It definitely takes strong dedication on the actor's part to hone their skills. It seems that most contemporary models are willing to compensate for their acting skills by shedding their clothes.
Bollywood needs better directors who can whip the actors and expolit their talent to the hilt.
there are many who can act, yes there is Juhi Chawala....i like sushmita sen as well...& there are those who cannot act,like suman ranganathan & pooja batra....so it depends... in the males, jaz arora, sayed zulfi cannot act 4 thier life,lakin he's been in a number of movies..lakin arjun rampal can act:)& the list goes on... i don;t think we should label ki "models" can't act, b/c there are certain famous actors & actresses kids who are the same way.... i think it's more on the person & how they potray themselves on screen..
AISHWARYA RAI CAN ACT....i think it depends on the role, if it says 4 her 2 b a bimboo then she's gonna act like it... if it's a softer sweeter role then thats that.....i think she's going 4 the more meaningful roles....looking 4-ward 2 chokher bali~
Juhi Chawla is a wonderful actress. Milind Suman is not bad. Self-imposed beauties and hunks like Bipasha Basu, Aishwarya Rai, Arjun Rampal and others like them need to seriously find another hobby or profession. They are atrocious on screen. No, most models cannot act and this has been proven over and over again. Acting is not something you pick up on the way while sipping a mocha latte. In order to perfect the art, one needs to seriously study it and commit to it.
Models make for hopeless actors. They are paid to fulfil the glamour quotient of movies. Ash is only a highly paid lady. What was her value in Devdas? It was Madhuri all the way. Her image which lingers is a dainty lady stepping out of a stage carriage at the Cannes festival venue. Nothing more. These so called artists should restrict themselves to Ramp struts & retire gracefully when they feel unwanted - like Mehr Jessia.
Not every model can become a good actor. Infact, its a Gods gift if they have the ability to manage both simultaneously. Also both these professionsl are also not inter-related. Some are good on the Ramp while rest are good on the Silver Screen and very few can manage both efficiently.
