Exploitation of the tamil masses by Film actors is nothing new. Starting with MGR, Karunadhi, Annadurai have all done that. If Tamil Nadu is in such a sorry state of affairs, more than the politicians, it is the film industry and a few cine actors are responsible. I certainly see some mert in what Dr Krishnaswamy says, leave alone his past background. A couple of days back Dr Ramadoss had the guts to come up with his view points strongly when Baba was released. I wish that the politicians rise to the occasion now and join Dr Krishnaswamy in this cause.

movies are a mirror to the society....
by praveen on May 17, 2003 11:07 AM

i think the caption say's it all....If u cannot digest what you are and go around brandishing you freedom of speech just because somebody wants the limelight..god save the country..!.Hey there are handful of people dare put the truth on the screen(may be manipulated/hyped to suit the needs),And the so called "LEADERS" come up with such statements..Don't u think he is the man who is trying to get political leverage using this movie....!

Simple question did we have another Bombay riots after watching "BOMBAY"...?

Lets not kill the talent....!and let every one express his view of the society.Anyways nobody is compelled to watch the movie. Cheers to Democracy..!

To get popuarity among people or to impress the people cine film makers are always go in for somewhat different titles. But they should consider their intension should not create any turbulance in the peaceful stream of people's day to day life.More over titles with caste surname could be avoided so that other caste people those who are going to see movies should not feel that no film maker is naming their caste titles.Becuase castism has blended with blood of people. They may not openly say that but there will be always soft corner to castism.
So for the hormonious life we can abondon anything at whatever cost!

I feel that let Mr.Kamal Hasan should be allowed to make that film. If its communal disruptive movie, let the censor board take action.

I don't why Mr.Krishnasamy involves himself before nothing happened. I personally feel that he wants others to feel his presence. so he indulges himself in such activities.

Let the movie be taken and let the censor board shall take the appropriate action whether to allow the film or not.
I support Kamal's attitude in this regard.

caste and films
by kr on May 17, 2003 09:30 AM

Fears expressed by Dr.Krishnaswamy are very pertinent.Caste has become the idiom to convey certain ideas. It is Thevar in southern districts, gounder in western districts,Tirunelveli Pillais and Brahmins to indicate conservative orthodoxy. This disease is not confined to films but has spread to tv serials.
Making a hero of an antisocial may be suitable for filmy imaginations(they are dream merchants any way)but undesirable and bad in sociological terms. Pleading ignorance of political implications reveals / confirms that our film makers do not research their script in all angles and hence they bring out puerile unrealistic stuff which cater mostly to the lowest tastes of film going public.

I would standby Mr. Krishnaswamy.
Film makers has that social responsibility. They cant take his argument so light. Afterall they are making the movie to make a hit. Then why the heck they need to bring an anti-social element.
Truely yes

Salute to Krishnaswamy
