Maharashtra will need Rs. 1.3 lakh crores to deliver on its promise of waiving the loans of small and medium farmers with land holdings upto 5 acres !
And M.P will need Rs. 36000 crores if it were to follow suit !
While the Maharashtra govt capitulated at the first signs of trouble from farmers, the M.P govt still hopes it can carry on with its shows of the CMs fast and sound bytes praising the role of farmers without really having to promise loan waivers !
Either way, the governments in these states (as well as that in Rajasthan and perhaps those in many other states as well) now find themselves caught in a cleft stick with little options left but to capitulate and severely compromise the financial health of their states.
And the final nail in the coffin has been promised today by Arun Jaitley, the union finance minister who reiterated that the centre will not and cannot come to the aid of such states to help in delivering on their promises to farmers !
A veritable Pandoras box was indeed opened by Narendra the komaaaaali when he recklessly promised higher MSPs and a 50 % return on investment for farmers during his campaign in the 2014 LS election !
why any loan should be written off? whose money it is and whom the money belongs to? the money which is lent mostly belong to poor and middle class people who keep their money for their old age needs and emergency. what right these politicians and media has got to demand for write off of the loans. why no politician is asking for better irrigation facility and other facilities for the farmers. IT HAS BECOME FANCY TO ASK FOR WRITE OFF.

Too late.
Immensely bigger loans taken by croxny capitalists (Adani, Ambanis, Mittals, Agarwal, Birlas and many others) - for projects and then diverted silently followed by declarations of unviability for the projects - have been written off already by the former UPA and the current NDA governments !!
Responding indignantly to the writing off of loans to farmers is akin to sleeping through the din of cannon fire but waking up to the sound of falling leaves !
World over development means agriculture gets replaced by industry and services not only in GDP but also and more importantly in labor force. 2% of USA population produces so much more. There are no free lunches anywhere. So if the previous government has spoiled the credit system with loan waivers soon banks will sink and there will be nothing left. If farming is economically non viable any amount of credit waivers will not do. Period. They may lead to distress and suicides. There is the need to consolidate and industrialize large villages to absorb surplus labour which if HUGE. This under employment is the root cause of all evil. How long can the few tax payers sustain the burden of 99% non tax payers. Just think the same farmers who sell wheat @Rs 17 per kg buy it back from PDS shops @2/kg what kind of economics is this. And then t blame this government for all this mess of 70 years

HE ALSO HAS ALMOST NIL PROPERTY WORTH ONLY 4-5 LAKHS IN TODAY TERMS IT IS NOTHING.
