Good idea to only go for more cost effective TALGO trains with Aerodynamic engine .it can easily go at 200 - 250 kmph !

If cost is reasonable not like cost of bullet/flight cost then it makes sense otherwise there won't be many takers except for short distance intercity of 350 - 450 km .

Thats SCARILY fast on lazy indian tracks with jay walking humans and cattle crossing the track at will.
It difficult to sleep during o/n journeys on our FAST Rajdhanis and durontos. Im not sure i can sleep peacefully at 180kmph on Indian tracks.
Better to have new talgo-specific tracks with fencing to make it SAFER.

hahaha.. when day comes no one spared in this earth. As you said we need protection to avoid accidents.
Why we need Bullet train. We can develop Talgo trains and connect New Delhi with all state capitals.

Not a bad idea. But bullet trains are a long term investment and a competitor to airlines. Bullet trains are 5 times more energy-efficient than airlines. Talgo should be used to speed up existing trains. Talgo can't reduce air traffic. Bullet trains can. And will be much cheaper than airlines in the long run. If crude oil goes back to $100 in a few years, airfares will more than double from current prices. Then bullet trains can seriously challenge airlines (because they run on electricity generated from cheap Indian coal). Talgo cannot challenge air travel but can seriously upgrade our existing train experience.

You are assuming the price of Crude oil. Even Japan can give without interest, we are the loosers. Because they pay in US Dollor not in Rupee. When we return back in Dollors you cannot assume the dollor price. After 50 years you have to pay more than 1000 times to Japan.
We welcome bullet train, not FDI.

Instead of taking loan from Japan, we offer our (Swiss Bank) black money holders to invest in this project. Problem solved.

It will be very difficult for bullet trains to compete with airlines. Consider this. The air fare between Mumbai –Ahmedabad is about Rs. 1900/-, however the proposed bullet train fare will be about Rs. 3500/-. How will the bullet train compete? Even the bullet trains in China, Japan and Taiwan are making losses even after so many years of operation. That’s one of the reason, countries like US, UK, Australia etc have not built Bullet trains.

Talgo specific tracks with fencing will beat the very purpose of using Talgo. The advantage of Talgo is that it can run at high speed on existing tracks. If we have to make new tracks, might as well make it for Shinkansen bullet train of Japan throughout the country.

to run talso successfully at 150 kph we need separate high speed track which can be used by rajdhanis and durontos too.
, when talgo uses same existing tracks where everything from rajdhani/duronto/mail/express/passenger and even freight trains run, TALSO will eventually be slowed down to EXPRESS train speed.
IF it has to maintain that speed throughout the journey, then a separate track is must.
cost of talgo track is same as normal track fencing so not a buig issue 100times cheaper than bullet trains

Focus on Talgo

I urge Rail ministry to focus the efforts on Talgo trains and divert funds from Bullet trains to Talgo trains. With the similar funds we can run Talgo trains on wider network.

Railways is not giving any funds to the bullet trains. It is coming entirely as 50 year loan from Japan at 0.1% interest rate with no repayment for 15 years. 80% of the components will be manufactured in India. Railways has to just spend 15,000 crore over next 50 years. If we don't take bullet train, then Japan won't give any financing. So it is pointless to say divert money from bullet train to talgo. When railways is not spending any money over the next 15 years on bullet train, where is the question of diverting?

Dear bakchod, There is a very high chance that the cost of bullet train project will escalate by atleast about 50% -100% which is equivalent to about RS. 115,000 crore. Japan will not pay this escalated cost, so this would have to be borne by Indian tax payers.

Dear bakchod, We know that the construction cost of bullet train is very high. What many people don’t know is that the operation and maintenance costs of bullet trains is also very high about 4 times of the normal trains. Because of which it is very difficult for them to break even. And thus they need to be supported with tax payer’s money for ever. A white elephant in making.

agreed. But for the bullet trains we didn't invest. We invite FDI in it. Better avoid it. We go for Talgo trains. We can reach Delhi within 12 hours from Chennai. If flight. 2 and half hours 1 hour before checkin 1 hour travel time to reach airport. All together 5 hours. Instead we reach within 12 hours by Talgo. Make the journey during night and save that time too.
JAI TALGO.

Any economy needs a driver. Until now power and steel was a driver. A Bullet train is not just a fantasy. Making a bullet train in India would mean critical technology transfer, which will in-turn fuel the demand for intellectuals in-house. The manufacture of rolling stocks will require high-end technology, which will be transferred. Manufacturing will have a demand - rolling stock, axles, rails, OHEs. Train manufacture, when localized will drive an economy that will be quite significant. We must take a wholesome view of the proposal and not as a toy for only the rich!!

what is use of tech transfer if its not cost effective to run ?
Even Metro cost is more than what Bus charge .
For 10 km in chennai Bus fare - Rs20
And Metro want Rs 40 to make it viable !
Its lack of planning that is root of Metro mess.
In Bangalore if all the Rail lines are used as commuter railines with stations every 2 - 4 km it can reduce traffic , pollution , congestion and cost Rs 5 - Rs 10 per 10 km !
