The bullet train technology as used in Japan is not based on international standards, and they use a very unique technology that is restricted only to japan. That’s the reason no country in world has ever bought Japanese technology (other than Taiwan but that was also via a huge loan from Japan). It is better to adopt open and international standards like China did. If we adopt international standards for rolling stocks, signalling etc (just like China) then we will also have an option to procure these components from international vendors and not be dependent on one Country (basically a single supplier) forever.

No accident does not mean, it is due to technology. Most accidents happen due human error or other things. BTW there are very few road accidents too on Japanese roads. so is it dute to the high tech of the roads?

Let us have one or two bullet trains and the rest shall be talgo trains. Even the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train will be ready only by 2023 and considering its final cost the Govt may change its decision on more bullet trains.

Talgo becomes the fastest train in India
by susarla suryaprakasam on Jul 14, 2016 08:45 PM

It's ok. India should not ape China. Even now, the trains are stopped in the outer for 1/2 an hour before being cleared to platform. Years ago, in 80s, I travelled by air from Kolkata / Calcutta to Visakhapatnam in 11/2 hrs, while from vizag/ Waltair / Visakhapatnam to Rajahmundry took 4 hrs on train. Unless these shortcomings are rectified in an underdeveloped country like India, there is no use in speeding up the trains. Besides the staff should be properly selected to run such trains. Once on a single track, Rajdhani driver ignored stop-signal in Adoni while Garibrath is coming in the opposite direction. Providence avoided major accident.

yeah, thanks to Mr Suresh Prabhu for increasing cancellation charges from Rs 40 in 2014 to Rs 120 now on Sleeper Classes,
thank him for doubling IRCTC payment gateway charges,
thank Suresh Prabhu for asking the future of India, kids aged between 5-11 to pay full fare if they need berth/seat , if they don't need, pay half fare and adjust in parent/guardian berth/seat.
What Suresh Prabhu is doing is just lootmaar the Common Man and nothing great.
Already, the Delhi Bhopal Shatabdi was clocking 150km/hr, what great achievement in adding Gatiman which touches just 160 km/hr.
Instead focus on escalators/lifts at Railway stations which will help elders/disabled , LED boards displaying next station, exp arrv/dep inside compartments so that it helps first time travelers on unknown routes.

I think you are having the half information on this and not a frequent traveller. The prices are changed b'coz of the brokers & touts so that common people can get reservation wheneever needed. This initiative had made the confirmed tickets more viable and in short time so that is commendable. Cleanliness drive, Drinking water machines, Women,s safety, ATVM's, Electrification, line laying, Single window services and many more achievements are there to be defined so instead of critisizing appreciate some good work.

It is an on going process - whoever be the Railway Minister or PM this would have happened. Further this would have been planned much earlier and could not be within two years. For converting a meter gauge to broad for a distance of 40 kms Railways took five years. Construction for Chennai Metro started during 2007-so far 50-60% work have been completed - likely to be completed by 2020.

Some 30/40 years ago trains were running @ 60/80 km ph whereas now such trains runs at a speed of 100-120kms. Very few runs @ 150kms. Refer Mr Ganesh Kumar comments. For eg Madras-Madurai Pandiyan Ex then told as if fastest took 11hrs for 500kms whereas Vaigai Exp introduced some 30 years ago crosses that distances by 7hrs. Similarly Dadar took 36 years and now it takes 24-25 hrs. Hence I said it is an ongoing process. In practice every dept projects themselves better for every year. Otherwise would have been static. Hence need no appreciation.

Jitna vi karo Indian Railway is Indian Railway . Dirty Toilet, Guthka Pan Thuk, Open to continuous flow of vendors , Poor Track & signalling. Train can be purchased but can the speed be maintained unless separate track is there.

Bullet train
by on Jul 14, 2016 04:53 PM  | Hide replies

Talgo technology, because of its low cost will be better than the super expensive Bullet train technology. With the bulet train technology, it will be very difficult for them to compete with airlines. Consider this. The air fare between Mumbai –Ahmedabad is about Rs. 1900/-, however the proposed bullet train fare will be about Rs. 3500/-. How will the bullet train compete? Even the bullet trains in China, Japan and Taiwan are making losses even after so many years of operation. India must go with the cost-competitive Talgo train technology.

The most striking part of the journey was the fact that an Indian diesel engine pulled the coaches at 180 kmph.

The locomotive shown at the end of the train is very much the Indian built WDP 4. TALGO has not brought any locomotives. The locomotives used for the trials were WDM 3D and WDP 4

As far as i understand only the coaches are of Talgo make, the Engine is of Indian origin . Our Indian made engines are capable of high speeds, it is just that we dont have tracks for such high speeds & the lighter bogies to go for higher speeds.

Talgo vs bullet train
by on Jul 14, 2016 04:44 PM

If we can achieve a speed of 180 km/hr with Talgo trains and technology, on our existing tracks (with some upgradation), then this seems to be a great technology. The Rs. 115,000 crore bullet train project must be reconsidered because in this price we can upgrade about 5000 kms of existing tracks to 180 km/hr.

funny! for 38 minutes, it will run at 180km/hr, what about rest of the time? Lets be realistic, believe the chennai-Mysore Shatabdi never has been used at its peak speed. in fact, I believe it runs at every other train's speed, with lesser stops.
