The Sardar
by vijay nayar on Nov 03, 2014 11:58 AM

nation is built by statesmen and not politicians
Sardar has not been given his due respect and place in the shaping the country. Had the statue of Unity been built at that time than the cost have been inn few cores. Mr. Prime minister is building the national character
and is infusing national pride in this world of self before nation

Atleast bring a concept of unity as statue

Nothing against Sardar and he is a tall leader of this nation. But even he will not like the idea of his larger than life size statue. It is so ugly and instead, a concept of unity as espoused by Sardar can be given a thought. Just my 2c.

Some people have always anti people sentimental and anti national feelings just to create nuisance and controversy, making of a statue-nothing wrong, if so, Mayawati has wasted thousands of crores. We should not forget all these memories provide clean atmosphere for the people to sit in the evening, promote tourism and provide employment to many for its upkeep and maintenance.

We could not find any employment or tourism there so far. Patel is national Hero not Mayawati. Ambedkar statue are everywhere and seen with pride.

I see, so Mayawati should have made a huge statue like this one or chosen a better place for attracting tourists? If she had done so you would have supported her move? Whatever memorials Mayawati built also "provide clean atmosphere for the people to sit in the evening". Dont try hard. The biggest problem with the world and our country is Hypocrisy. I and many others (but not necessarily fan boys) agree that the Nehru family has been overplayed and Patel down played, and have no issue with statue for Patel. But, the problem is with the attitude of fan boys like you for whom anyone who has a different view from your lot is "anti national" "anti people" and "nuisance". So nauseating and so dangerous for this country's future.

Not everything can be judged by money.

Its worth the cost to build this monument, what have we done after independence that is worth a talk in terms of a monument within independent India. Its very important to have such gesture to know what India can do to the world. There are other issues we face and worth a look but this in its place is worth a build. We Indians have stopped thinking big for past 60 years...

Gujratis anyway have a bad vulgar taste in all matters including clothing.

Mayawati built a full public place and these same people were criticising her. Now these gujjus are building just one obelisk for the same money and no ones saying a word

Kudos to the writer. Its not easy to write bravely these days

Absolute Waste!
by Prakash Dere on Nov 03, 2014 11:22 AM

Yes, The Spend on Statue Of Unity Is Absolutely A Waste Of Not Only Money But It Is A Waste Of Every Resource That Will Be Required To Build It!! If Only This Resource Could Be Used For The Various Upcoming Projects For Common Man! The Crores That Will Be Wasted... Could Make Every Common Man, Specially The Down Trodden A Crorepati Or It Could Even Make Every Single Indian A Crorepati.

Alternate view
by Anant Darak on Nov 03, 2014 11:19 AM  | Hide replies

There will always be alternate views for each action....
Hence we say in democracy everyone can have their own view... but once you have given a job to someone we have to see what he is up to.. I think if we are able to capitalize on the development we can make it a tourist destination comparable to the Statue of Liberty.. lets think positive... not all things need to be seen in the prism of negativity.. .

The statue of Liberty was a gift from France to the USA for helping them to get back Paris from 6 yrs. of occupation by the Germans!
