Statue of Sardar Patel
by nagaraju on Nov 03, 2014 10:44 AM  | Hide replies

Then why should be proud of Taj Mahal which was constructed only to immortalise a love, a Red Fort which is symbolic of British Era both in the name and structure, Shakti stal which is only a yearly congregation place for Congress leaders, Kutub Minar which has no significance except it's megalythic structure and we can go on listing such wasteful expenditure of both money, time and labour. One must understand man cannot live on bread alone.

When there are talks about austerity and cost cutting, does it justify a huge amt of almost 3000 crores being spent on such a statue. Thankfully Sardar Patel is not alive to see such blatant use of his legacy. Spending even half of this amt on primary education for the poor and some part on transport infrastructure would be highly beneficial and make development of the country more possible.
People expect good work with progress and not gimmicks like this.

Waste of money
by Opinionated Man on Nov 03, 2014 10:42 AM  | Hide replies

The money used to build the statue, can be used to build many roads, bridges, dams, and millions of other developmet work.

This govt is just for gimmick and nothing more.

I am sure Sardar Patel, would have wanted to see this money being utilized for the benefit of the people of India and not a useless statue.

What is difference between Modi and Mayawati then?

Absolutely right, but the die hard brain washed so-called Samaj sevaks will never be able to acknowledge this, as it is way beyond their limited knowledge and no understanding of anything.

Ms Mitali missed the point
by sudhir sharma on Nov 03, 2014 10:33 AM  | Hide replies

The author missed the point that in all the near 70 years of Independent India all we could do is remember Gandhi Family and name hundreds of schemes after them. Sardar Patel remained under shadows despite a colossal contribution of unifying India comprising of 562 states and principalities. Nehru took upon himself one state of J&K and we still are dealing with that. It is time we resurrected our history and give our due to the colossal figure that he was - Sardar Patel.

Must build Statue of Unity
by Ravi Airy on Nov 03, 2014 10:30 AM  | Hide replies

Those who dont like this great idea must be of sick mind and netter go to some mental hospital. US has earned thousands of time the cost they incurred in Statue of Liberty in NY out of world tourists. Money now spent would be earned many times over after few years from people visiting the location in Gujarat.

Statue of Liberty was gifted to the US by France and US was already an economic powerhouse at that stage
