You should learn and respect their sovereignty...
Ashoka was the only Indian emperor who ruled the entire Greater India which includes present days Afghan, Pakistan, Bungladesh and virtually Srilanka but still Tamils were not part of it
Tamils were doing the sea trade across the globe in the ancient period and acted as a hub for the sea trade which has sea in its all the 3 sides
The ancient period APAC sea trade hubs like Singapore, HongKong was happening through sea ports in Tamils region
The great Ankorwat and Tanjavur temple have been constructed in the same period with a similar design and architecture which are more than 1000 years old

ALl the Tamil kingdoms paid tribute to the Mauryas and recognized them as their overlords. Tamil Nadu was never isolated from the rest of India and was ruled for a huge portion of it's history by kings based in Karnataka and Andhra.
civilization started from lamuria, now it is inside indian ocean.kumari( means mountain)was a tall mountain, rivers were flowing from it and passing old madurai, later which had first tamil society(mudhal tamil changam).Himalayas was under water-sea,still sea fossils are discovered in himalayas.Civilization spread from here,by the time, world had one continent, called pangea. after 5th century A.D,people from persia, started migrating, travelled east, destroyed sindh culture, entered north india.still they couldn't penetrate south india. All modis, patels, iranis,Parsis, etc., are of migrants from PERSIA(now IRAN) lost the war in between their groups. then came moguls, they also couldnt rule south india especially tamilnadu, kerala.

It is incorrect to say that Tamils are not ruled by other kings/kingdom outside.
The Vijayanagara empire, Krishnadevaraya extended his kingdom including Tamils region around 12th/13th century till fallen under hands of Delhi sultanates...I believe Tamil kingdoms and its indigenous sovereignty started falling from 12th century

And mind you, most of these statistics have been vetted by the statements of ministers in the TN state assembly !!
And each of the statistics are from the reports of the rural development minsitry, ministry for women and children, health, etc. besides the UN HDI reports, etc. !!
