Correction of GDP
by Vijay Moholkar on Feb 23, 2012 01:42 PM  | Hide replies

GDP should be calculated on the basis of purchase power parity (PPP) and not direct Rupee-Dollar conversion. PPP for Rupee-Dollar is approx 15 while that for Rupee-Euro is 20.

great I agree with you. Though my state tamilnadu is second only to maharashtra on the basis of rupee-dollar conversion, i agree with you 100% that purchasing power parity is teh correct creteria to judge the standard of loving of people. The author of this article shoud rewrite this agin with data based on PPP

In addition, PPP only gives you what you can..not what u're.. there is a huge diff between "can" and "are". PPP for India is world's 3rd largest after US, and China. But actual GDP is around 1.6tril which is 9th position in the world. Your income per capita signifies your status of living and growth. And, in this case India is considering one of the poorest country on earth. So, I don't care about PPP, rather I care about actual GDP and income per capita ( not GDP per capita).

by surya das on Feb 23, 2012 12:19 PM  | Hide replies

Only three tiny states(Delhi, Goa and Haryana) ve crossed 2k mark and Chandigarh 3k mark.. which way below than avg standard.. forget abt rest.. looks horrible when 4 poorest states of India UP,Bihar,MP and Assam..whose income per capita is around 550 to 600$..which is even lower than Somalia(one of the poorest nation)..

Good progress report for Odisha which GDP was 550$ in 2008, increased to 800 plus... its not matter of state GDP, rather income per capita which will tells us improvement of our livehood..

It is not Income Per Capita. It is Gross Domestic Product per capita. I think there is difference between the two.

Yes, here in this report card its showing GDP per capita. But if you read my second comment, I ve told that there "income per capita" is the matter the most cause it will show your livehood and growth of your country. Even though our country's GDP is 1.6trillion $ but we are still poor cause income per capita is way below than avg standard, cause of 1.22bil population. Same time, I had read article in Rediff which was showing income per capita, Odisha and Rajasthan r standing at same point around $700 plus, where as UP and Bihar were around 500$, followed by MP and Assam. I only count big states.

Here, in this article, GDP divide by state population, which will show GDP per capita.

From which official source does these figures quoted?
by kesireddy sreedhar on Feb 23, 2012 11:43 AM  | Hide replies

God knows who derived the above figures. It is not informed in the above article that from which source these figures were quoted.
But, the above figures do not match from the official figures given in Wikipidia and World Bank sources.

job creation is key to GDP.
by indian soldier on Feb 23, 2012 11:35 AM  | Hide replies

GDP and growth does not fall from sky. Its all about becoming good consumer, that will create demand for good prodcut and services. private, office, shopping complex will come to fulfill. Jobs and income will be created. Govt will be able to collect tax money from the company and job and will be able to build road, infrastruture etc. the formula is very simple. yet not many indian behave to support the growth. they live in fantasy, blaming govt and neta whole day. neta cant make our living better.

gafoor, the issue is that leakage from that system, like real estate eating away money, its a drain on people. and netas support it or most cases they own in, and when there is a leakage as big as this in bucket, only fool tries hard to fill it.

Wonder about the tall claim of Modi on Gujarat GDP...Surely the claim is only a hype or publicity stunt.

Huge credit should be given to UP, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha... Looks as if in the right direction.

Kindly verify if the jharkand is on 17th position with GDP of $23.230 bn, than how it comes that Assam is on 18th position with $ 22,690 bn. it seems that you have used , instead of . in depicting the figures. kindly correct it.
