it could be possiable if the govt help to generate the housing development for poor people allow the people to come forward with innovative plan with simple with some tuf rules & regulation so people could not brake the rule if they do theire should be harhs punishment who ever his envolve in that like if a poor person alloted the house s/he could not sell the house if it is so that then purcheser/seller/agent/ and who ever is envolve in that even the who has given the affidevit also. I have one plan wher it can be possiable but not in 300$ it fetch more so, it might be possiable mr.Vijay Govindarajan can do it in 300$ the plan which he have. In today's seniro if the gov't come forward with plan like the builder sell only in carpet area where his plan will sancation only where they submited in carpet area & they will get FSI as per carpet area only & the transaction should be transperent & unless & untill they don't get OC they cannot give pasession or it will be treated as illlegal there will be not penelty if they found they had given pasession then the person who has take he will fine huge ammount penelty because he/she help to go for corruption. in this way the market will again come. shaikh zakir hussain

Will such USD300 houses be kept suspended in the air? What about cost of land? In cities of India, the cost of house is secondary and it is the land which matters most!

You seem to have hit the nail on the head. Maybe you should take part in the challenge as you've identified a bottleneck. Why don't you think up an idea where the house is not on land - as you said suspended in the air (or maybe a skyscraper which uses minimum land per house)?

As these are built for slum dwellers, land cost doesn't arise. Houses shall be built using slum areas/ govt. land.

If it is the question of Slum Rehabilitation then why not handover the precious slum land to builders free of cost and then builders will be more than happy in giving low cost housing free of cost to each slum dweller and at the same time selling many more housing units to other sections of the society and then in turn making huge profits for themselves too!
Good, please try for the best solution, make sure it is cyclone and earth quake proof..if need cost can be rs.50,000 as well
..the deficit can be covered up by recovering money from foreign and various accounts of sonia jee, rahul jee, sharad pawar jee, laloo jee, karunanidhi jee, raja jee, balwa jee,etc,etc,etc...
FarookhAbdullah,RatanTatan,BillionDollarHomeWallah Ambani,Suni Bharti mittal,Premji,Mallya, etc should be enforced to contribute to such a corpus fund for housing the poor...enough of IPL type tamasha..Indians need roti, kapda, makan, sadak and rozgar,or else all corrupt and elite will be dumped into the Arabian sea for whales to eat...
