Nano is a flop (even with thousands of crores of rupees in government subsidies by central and Gujrat governments including subsidized petrol). This one will also meet the same fate if ever it becomes something more than just bolvachan.
once bjp comes to power posh houses will be given to poor in main centre of all the metros also one car for poor with free petrol. to happen this people have to vote bjp and throw away corrupt congis.
Government has done nothing to stop or check the growth rate of Land Cost. Land prices are appreciated in about 50 to 1000 times in last 10 Years. This is due to unchecked of Black money. Criminals, Politicians, Business mens and Lazy people benefited. Worst affected is salary people.
While well-intentioned, allowing hundreds of millions of such low-cost, single-family houses will eat up a huge chunk of already scarce land. With over 1.25 billion population and growing, land is a prime but finite resource. The best way to preserve this resource is by creating high-density, affordable housing with small footprints, allowing more land for desperately needed industry, agriculture and other social infrastructure.
The Earl Daum Prof at Tuck has overlooked the most vital item contributing to the cost, which is the cost of land itself. Poor people live in cities because that is where they find work to get 2 meals a day. The cost of land in cities is exorbitant. The cost of a hut built in a village with mud and grass is probably less than $300 that Mr. Prof is touting as his invention.
The point i not building these cheap houses , how do you make people stay in it , typical pysch of the poor people is to lease these house and again stay in a slum, earning on the money they get by leasing such a house, we need to first educate the people who live in these slums , that should automatically correct it self.
Great idea, if the world's best business minds can build a sustainable business from such a house, and get support from atleast a few governments who wish to do good, this is an exciting proposition for the underprivileged. Usage of solar energy/a small windmill can relieve pressure off the grid, and avoid theft losses which are eventually passed on to paying customers. Encouraging use of such a better house has to be reinforced with discouraging use of slums/shanties, otherwise this will end up with a similar fate as earlier housing programs, where slum dwellers return to old slums after selling govt-subsidized low cost houses.
