even slums have roof and can put cooker on roof ... ok, the food can get stolen from there, but that's not the point
Mr.Govindrajan must be living in wonderland & he has got his maths all screwed up.The suit he is wearing will be more costly than his so called cheap house.Logically where do you find shanties? no need to be brilliant to answer this.Ofcourse you will find them in around cities anywhere in the world.you dont need a lowcost house & a PC in the middle of sahara desert. What is required is water.Similarly what you require to build is land which as we all know is in short supply in cities.or is it the case buy house ,land free.A mans vehicle will tell us approx about the house he lives in & his income.A man who affords 4000 dollar car will live in a 40000 dollar house.

this is the best way of stealing others valuable ideas in the name of a $10,000 silly prize. They must reward the people by giving royalty from the sale of every house in the future. Will they?
Unless the government gives away free land and the waiver of all taxes on Cement Steel and all other essential commodities that go with making a house as we see in the design; this would be unrealistic for any person to even think that a cost could be as low as 14000 rupees (300$) I believe that a room needs to be atleast 150 Sq Ft to accommodate a bathroom/toilet and a kitchen along with living space for 4 people (even then it would be congested) With present cost that would be costing around 45000 rupees in building a good quality residence. Waiver of all taxes at all levels of material used in production can definatly make this a reality though
Re: 300$ Home in India and in present times is a Dream
by Loan Shark on May 20, 2011 01:46 AM
that's the point ... to use material that will be cheaper e.g. preformed walls and roofs
or just take a used shipping container and people can live in it
This technology of a low cost house is great and if it is adopted by all the nations for the poor in their respective countries the there will not be any jhuggies. All people with out proper shelter upto now can have sigh of relief. If the fly ash generated by thermal power plants can be used for any of the materials like bricks, flooring thin roof over the house then the cost can be still brought down because the thermal power generating units may give it at a throw away price or free of cost.
First of all the corrupt of all hues politicians , judiciary and corporates are waging a hypnotising war on the common man that owning a house will be next to impossible after some decade or so , so buy in now at extraorbient costs. It is not new in India for 300 $ housing. Laury backer has long back proved it is entirely possible , and low cost housing was never given it's due respect. I for one witnessed some 10 years back a low cost house of 250 sft being built in seven hours , with only 11000 rs investment.

I agree with you.. it is criminal politician mafia in real estate who have invested all ill gotten billions in realestate toartificaly hike the property prices...just like 10 rs/Kg onion was hiked to 40-50Rs/kg artificially likewise Indian realestate is hiked 3-4 times artificially making it impossible to buy home for common man!!!

I don’t understand why we blame politicians always. I am not a politician either. It is all about greed of our people. If peoples stop buying the price always comes down. But this will not happen until we respect each other. Many people are still blocking the property even though they have many. If the business is not profitable then no one will invest.
Some years back when invertors bought apartment for 30L to 50L they are easily sellable to 60 to 90 in five years.
Now the prices are so high Ex for 3bhk from good builder in Bangalore costs 70L to 1.2 cr. Let’s see how many people can sell that to 1.4cr to 2.4cr after five years.
