Need to see other side of coin
by ABHAY JAIN on May 16, 2011 09:27 PM  | Hide replies

So much hype has been created by media regarding the recent petrol price hike by Govt.

We all know that no economy, no organization can survive for long by giving continous subsidies.

No doubt that due this huge price hike the common man (especially middle class) will suffer the most but can this hike be averted, surely not. Sooner or later this hike has to come.

Most people has the tendency to look only at the problem & to not to look at the solution.

Just one question from all the readers, if you face any financial problem at your home what would you do, surely all of you would try to spend wisely & make your best efforts to earn more & save more.

Here also, we should focus more on the possible solution rather than talking about problem.

Here the time has come when one should start thinking of saving expense on fuel by using various techniques like, car pooling, use of public transport, using vehicles only for long distances & there are so many other ways to save the fuel & thereby saving the money, helping govt in managing balance of trade, helping in gaining carbon credits.

Try to be positive as this price hike should not be viewed to critisize govt but everyone should put a step forward in this global problem.

While reducing subsidy is a necessary step, balancing the price hike by reducing Cess and excise tax on petro product should be considered.
Why we need to pay excise, ST and on top of it education Cess for product like petrol?
If they reduce the excise rate and abolish state tax, we can get cheaper petrol.
Right now, the petrol is costlier then it is in Japan or Australia.

Buddy, you can say this words because you must be an Engineer / MBA or highly educated person. You are very sure for yourself that you gonna earn more & more day by day else your whole family income would be of more than Rs.1 lacs per month. Have you ever think about those people who lives below poverty line ? Have you seen any person who dies with his whole family just because of not able to make sufficient money for survival.

You will also agree with me that still more than 80% population of India living below poverty line, who don't know that they will get one time meal for a day. In such case if govt. will hike prices of such an essential commodity like Petrol / Diesel / Kerosene / Cooking Gas, how common person can live with his family, if he is hardly earning of around Rs.4000/- p.m.

Do you fuel price hikes affect on how many things, in few days Milk prices / Vegetable prices / Food grain prices / Public transport vehicle fares will go up like anything.

Don't you think so against that common person is able to cope up this situation.

What the hell bullshit subsidies provides by govt. on the fuel / gas. Instead of providing subsidies they are minting money from such commodities. Don't be live unrealistic world, if you have learn or heard about economics then tell us that whatever the actions govt. has taken is precise.

By rising such essential commodities prices they are filling their election wallet and all the money goes to swiss bank.

public transport
by interpot@rediffmail.com on May 16, 2011 09:24 PM

I can tell about city of Bangalore. The rulers of the city is against public transport because of their c-a-steist feudal attitudes. They are trying to destroy BMTC and against suburban railway because they enjoy the suffering of the poor. The only way to reduce the price of petrol is to signal to the market that the government is serious about public transport. This is the case with all other indian cities also, i imagine, but they can never beat Bangalore. We can hope the Indian cities to change, but the world's biggest enemy of public transport is of course US. As long as they waste oil, there is little hope. Even if they reduce cars, they still have to use lot of energy for heating, so these cold countries will always waste energy.

As of now the price rise is great. The cars and bikes are wasting petrol. They will have some time to rethink their behavior. Unfortunately or luckily, these wasters did not have to change their behavior because the growth put more money into their hands. This may not happen every time. As the reserves of crudeoil are depleting there will be exponential! increase in the price of petrol. So enjoy while u can.

ONLY SOLUTION IS CORRUPTION FREE COUNTRY
by Aftab Sameer on May 16, 2011 09:24 PM

1) There should be accountability for politicians, bureaucrats, industrialists etc, there legal/illegal assets should be known to the public. They should treat themselves as public servants rather than rulers.

2) The illegal Indian money held in various Banks around the world should be brought back to India and the same shall be used to develop the youth and children of this nation.

We Indians should come out of the Nawabi and Lazy Life Style and work hard to earn our livelihoods. In our Indian families we have more dependants than earners. I hope we are able to overcome these few issues... things will change drastically.

Black money should be brought to circulation
by sadhwani suresh on May 16, 2011 09:01 PM

Govt should open an vdis scheme lauched earlier with all the confidentiality. This will bring in thousands of crores in system, which is as such lying idle in bank lockers of swiss banks of these politicians and businessmen.they use this black money to flaunt their wealth in india which in turn gives rise to high commodity prices including oil. Then all the loop holes of generating black money should be blocked.Thirdly all futures trading in commodities should be abandoned.PAN no should be compulsory for all transaction above Rs 10,000.People with annual income above 1 crore should be taxed at 50% of their income, and those above 10 crore taxed at 60 %.Dividend income above 1 crore should be considered as your income and taxed.
I hope such radical suggestions will bring in loads of money to the governtment.Yes this money should be monitored not by politicians but a commitee of respected people in the society at large including govt.

Politicians are busy fighting elections, ducking scam allegations, running their own businesses etc.. and is hardly able to spare time for public service.

u think sharad pawars and sonia gandhis are affected by increase in petrol price...

for politicians, everything that matters is winning elections... this gives them power to scam and loot. Every minister has enough money to feed their 7 generations with luxury..

My thought is...
Is it a human nature that once power is acquired one uses it fr personal benefit... how many people would stay uncorrupt once

Subsidy is govt responsibility
by Parichay on May 16, 2011 08:22 PM  | Hide replies

Like we get free water as public service. Subsidies are a mean of public service.

Govt. is not business house. In IIM, symbiosis MBA studies it is taught how to run public service which is not aimed for profit but simply a public expenditure.

Congress and other capitalist right wing parties can not portray public spending as burden. Other countries even america is not withdrawing subsidies in agri-sector, they also spend a lot- providing social, food security, health insurance, life insurance. Only Indian Govt. don't provide social security. They are taking our vote and spreading that public spending is not good for economy. This is false marketing. Half-educated people are getting agreed.

You don't give subsidy, don't spend on public interest we won't vote for you.
