This is the economics of the rich!!
by Bharat Engineer on May 16, 2011 12:25 PM  | Hide replies

Diesel, used for SUVs and luxury cars, is subsidized.
Petrol, used for two-wheelers and small cars is not subsidized.

ATF, used for aeroplanes doesn't have customs duty. (I don't think even 1% of India's popluation use flights for transporatation)
Rest of the fuel, used for travelling by 99% of the population has customs duty

Rich to enjoy -- poor and middle class to suffer!!

please get ur facts right. for the rich it doesnt matter what car they drive..when they can invest 25 lacs and above on SUVs, the price of petrol or diesel is irrelevant. ATF in India is anyway one of the highest in the world making our airlines a lot more uncompetitive among the worlds best. As regards the poor, who is to decide what a poor person is. In India, poverty has been glamorized and therefore, all the ills plaguing our nation is the direct result of pampering the poor. Before we undertake more steps to make life better for the so called poor, let the poor also take up some responsibility towards this nation, let them not have kids if they cant afford them food, shelter and education. Let them not pander to the politicians in the name of religion and caste, and let them not be a nuisance to the tax payers.

Obviously.... after all poor are provided all the subsidies so that they can survive to vote and middle class is the most "notorious" who demand everything and still curse the govt even while they dont go out to vote.

Justify the price hike!!
by fahad mohd on May 16, 2011 11:46 AM

I want, nay demand the oil companies to explain the steepest rise in petrol price in history. I ahve worked in companies where they trade in crude purchased @ 2 cents a litre. I know in Saudi, a litre of petrol costs 40 Halala (roughly 4.7 Rupees) to the end customer. I demand as a consumer to explain the rise. Duties and taxes were already there. Wat is the reason why they are looting the gullible, poor Indain public. In one part of the world, people can get their petrol @ Rs.4.7 (Saudi), Rs. 5 (Venezuela), and here we r burdened with rise of Rs.5. What is the justification. Imagine its impact on inflation...

Dude, don't compare Saudi/ Vanezuela with India. They are exportes od crude oil and we are net importers. We have high taxes for petrol diesel bcoz are govt officials are not effective enough to collec various taxes and hence Petrol /deisel comes in handy. Charge high tax. get good amount to recover what is lost somewhere else. When we have corrupt and in efficient goverment and officials, these are the things we can expect.

Another killer blow to middle class and lower class of india
by Sachin Joshi on May 16, 2011 11:43 AM  | Hide replies

- Another massive hike in petrol prices by Congress govt.
- Milk prices also increased by Rs 2 per litre.

When will it all end? It looks like we are falling down an abyss. Congress govt's lies are exposed again. They say they are fighting to rein in inflation. Is this the way to fight it? Companies increase petrol prices by Rs 5 which is used by common man and they reduce ATF prices which is used by aviation companies (which will beneft only rich ppl). Where is the justice in this?
Congress govt says it increased the prices to cut fiscal deficit. Its a pure lie. They paid Rs 60,000 crore as farm loan waivers to get votes in the last elections. Didn't that increased fiscal deficit? And it set a wrong example. Poor ppl will take more unmanageable loans. This time my vote will go to BJP even though they are not secular. But secularity comes far below in the priority list. The things that affect me right now are inflation and corruption. So i'll vote for BJP just to keep Congress out.

Black money
by shanti Patil on May 16, 2011 11:39 AM

People buy car with white money and fill petrol with black money. Poor people get limited amount of kerosene on ration card but others can buy as many liters of petrol as they want. It is necessary to supply petrol on ration cards and in a limited quantity. In India only 3.5 crore people are tax payers. That means only 3.5 crore people are capable of buying petrol but you can see annual consumption data of petrol in India. From that data it is possible to calculate how much black money is there in our country. All those who do not pay tax should get only 1 liter of petrol per month. Tax payers should get more petrol depending upon how much tax they are paying. For example if a person is paying 1 lack tax per annuam then he can buy a petrol of Rs 10000 per year. This way it is possible to collect more tax and check the wastage of petrol. Proper utilization of petrol can bring down its prises also.

Common man bleeding
by prakash hiranandani on May 16, 2011 11:37 AM

Its become so easy for the politicians to easily impose any taxes on the common man as if the govt has taken for granted that whatever they do will pass of easily and the common man will allow ,but the govt is right ,we all have given them chance to do whatever they want, our hard earned money goes down in the drain in all kinds of scams and still we keep quiet ,and even allow again new scams ,
How long will the common man keep quiet ,dont you all feel its time to act against corruption and heal ourselves for all the wounds given to us .
