Writer seems to travel by this train frequently
by ashutosh gupta on Mar 10, 2011 04:57 AM

I wonder whether the writer belongs to patna and trying to air his frustration through this blog.

In fact, its not this train which he is mentioning there are many which meets the same end. For example Shiv Ganga from Varanasi was also started like that but it always reaches its both end late by minimu 3 hours daily.

you are so dumb.Indian citizens have no manners..they dont want to change, so nobody can help and nobody cant do anything about it..They can only watch movies, and dream of changing the country . I think you need to wake up before you comment such things. In UK underground it is really crowded but the service is wonderful and it is much better than NY or LA metro services in terms of hygiene and cleanliness.

Thats true Sheetal. even with small rain, whole UK rail system is down. I'm not sure whether MR is talking about UK in Europe or some other place. in UK travel by coach is cheaper, but with a rail fare in UK one can even travel to Mars. Sometimes its 800 pounds. They even loot you by saying weekday, peak hour rates.Atleast India with this huge population serving poor in Education, transport, health sectors. Quality and service became poor coz of corruption and selfishness of few besterds in our country

Reliable service with proper pricing..
by Passed on Mar 09, 2011 10:24 PM  | Hide replies

Cheap pricing is not an option. To keep everyone safe and making requires infrastructure improvement, railway need funds. And major funding comes from selling of tickets. Since all railway ministers are now bothered about one of other polls, they refuse to take the issue of price rise in their budgets.

We, as a passenger, need more reliable and affordable source of transportation. Railway seriously need to look into options to increase its capacity to introduce more trains and also to make sure that trains run on time.

Why do railway minister think that by paying few rupees less, I will agree to wait for trains for hours. I would rather reach my destination in time in comfort, instead of wasting my valuable time at station waiting for train.

Dear Mr. passed...You write that major funding of railways come from selling tickets..I am sorry to say you did not get it right..how have the railways managed to pull on with out increasing fares...the answer is simple, selling tickets is the minor source of income for railways, whereas freight and other sectors are the major revenue generating areas of railways..

Mr Bada Bhai is very right!
Above all, no insult is ever made to aam aadmi if a train is late; the system is now overcrowded with trains, and even Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Exp one day in the last week of August 2010 reached New Delhi at about 02:30 pm in place of 09:50 am! Think of that!
Above all great administrators are required as GMs and DRMs. Across hundreds of route kilometres of the Sealdah Division people still recall SR Thakur as the DRM who later retired as a member of the Rly Board. Before the Durga Puja, the Metro Rly at Kolkata faced problems almost all the weeks since last summer. An officer of a higher grade than the then Gm was appointed as the new GM of the Metro Rly at Kolkata and things changed for the better in less than three days and remained all right till now generally speaking. We need great officers.

I dont understand...
by prem k on Mar 09, 2011 08:49 PM

... why the author wants to justify train delays with fares when in reality the two may not even be related. It is often true that better services requires higher maintenance costs, but I think that punctuality and fares are unrelated. Given that railways is not in a great shape financially, the minister must see what operational improvements can be done to improve punctuality. It might sometimes mean as simple a thing as increasing the run time of the train by a couple of hours on the time table too. At least this way, the passengers know what to expect out of the train.
