Complex issues
by Ramesh Sharma on Jun 02, 2011 12:43 PM

The whole problem boils down to the distribution of income and wealth in this country. The politicians and the noveau riche are getting richer while the middle class and the rural farmers (where the food is getting produced) are getting poorer. The Pawars and the Kalamdis and the Gandhis are meking merry at the cost of the Indian poor. Check the Italian economy - it is doing very well. Thanks to the Mainos!

efficient distribution
by dancewiththesun on Jun 02, 2011 12:39 PM  | Hide replies

For start government should make FCI efficient and not let any grain rot for want of storage facility.Proper distribution and pricing mechanism can solve at least 50% of the problem.

You have been repeatedly giving this post irrespective of the topic involved. As a matter of fact language has nothing to do with the talent and your progress is not dependent on your knowledge of English but on your talent. Countries like Japan, China, France, Russia have tremendously progressed without knowledge of English. English is just one of the languages spoken on this earth and even the Butler of European Saheb could speak better English than what is now being spoken by some of our Graduates. But you cannot compare a Butler with a Graduate because their knowldge is not confined to only language. A child picks up the subject very quickly if he is tought in his mother tongue. In olden days there were hardly any English Medium Schools but still there was no dearth of inteligent people. I am of course not against the aquision of knowledge of English or for any other language but please dont link the progress of nation to the knowledge of English only. It can be achieved by various other ways abd means if you are sincere about it.

When are we going to stop babbling and address the monumental problem of population explosion ? All measures will be nullified if India cannot control its population.

NREGA
by SAM KIM on Jun 02, 2011 12:35 PM  | Hide replies

NRESGA is the culprit.
Agriculture productivity has gone down drastically. Its my own exp. people are not interested to work in fields as there is a easy money.
Though NREGA would have been some help in some places, making it pan india just for few votes has hurt food production

You are absolutely right. My native village is in Anantapur(AP). My brother has lands there and is facing severe labour shortage because all people go to road-work(NREGA). These people work for anly 4-5 hours perday and earn enough to sustain themselves. This has impacted soooo much for medium sized land owners that their productivity has come down drastically. Hence food production has gone down. This leads to further inflation.

the Real Picture
by AUGUSTINE DIAS on Jun 02, 2011 12:35 PM  | Hide replies

This is the real picture of our countries economy, There is nobody to look after the welfare & basic neds of the poor in this country, In fact, these so called people below poverty line are tortured/tormented by their unjust local authorities to make money & keep them under their belly ensuring that they do not raise their hood in revolt against their oppressive bosses, the govt & bureacrats are busy with creating news scams to benefit themselves, The counry produces enough food to fed each & every individual two meals in a day, but unfortunately Sharad Pawar is too busy with BCCI & IPL activities while his party mints money for themselves, God has not been kind to these rurals bearing with decades of oppression with no security at all even for one meal a day. Will the people of this country stand up for such people & make the govt work towards upliftment of these struggling villagers, reach out to them & make them feel secure after 60 years of independence, God does not exist for these people

not the correct analysis by Oxfam
by Amit Gaikwad on Jun 02, 2011 12:32 PM  | Hide replies

There is enough food production in India. The issue is that the poor people dont have money to buy food from the market.

This is another clear strategy by MNC's to mislead India and make billions of Rs. (giving some millions to S.Pawar)

MNCs and and the middlemen, millers who hoard food and influence agro policy with pawars help ofcourse, to suit them rather than farmers. They are the ones influencing the govt not to build more godowns to store food, leading to millions of tons of wastage.
