20 Best Indian Airports
by RAKESH DIKSHIT on Jul 28, 2011 05:39 PM

The Heading of the article is quite provocative but content is missing. Basis of rankings/assessment is also not given. Article of some ones fancy - a representative from the fourth estate goes and says wants to publish something - the management will offer all sops/ comfort to journo & elicit some wool to hoodwink readers being unawares that article's will be read by educated persons who also are users of one or the other airport. Comments below prove the hypothesis. Some facts about the best I.G.I. Terminal 1D (domestic):
1. The access to the departure lounge is a nightmare in the early hours when the day begins. Access to the terminal by cars and taxis is just not planned. Displays of gates for specific airlines is at just one location and if you miss you leave the taxi at one end and then trudge to the other to enter.
2. Car drop off has only two lanes. As is the case there are two lines of pax drop which form and then egress from the ramp becomes a nightmare.
3. Though there are multiple security gates but one will find only a few of them operating at peak hours leading to a big queue. The security should stand on the other side to guide and restrict the people not to break the queue and instead not just stare at the chaos from the inside of their counters.
4. Drinking water is nightmare all effort is to sell water or facilities - I think Sulabh Shauchalayas should be also opened on the airport - a good cause.
5. Boarding gates staff need training and patien

What are the basis taken for ranking?
by raul ram on Jul 28, 2011 05:32 PM

It seems this is a paid news item. all private airports are given top ranking. look at the photo of chennai airport/trivandrum aiports. are they the best places. take a look of private airports' passenger amenities. Airports authority run airports give free of cost to passengers many of them. in pvt aiports even water needs to be purchased. thank god they do not ask you to buy and use tissue in their toilets. pvt business-every paise counts. govt (read taxpayers money) -why this is not there-why that is not there.
dont run private funded news stories rediff.

Drinking water not available at Domestic airport, Delhi
by Rameshwar Singh on Jul 28, 2011 05:17 PM  | Hide replies

I went to delhi in October 2010, while coming back via New Delhi Domestic Airport I found that there was no drinking water arrangement at Domestic airport, Delhi. There were few taps in which you have to put your mouth to get water at very poor flow rate. Sale of Mineral water bottle was very high, I am sure this design of drinking water tap must have provided by some Political figure who is running his own Mineral water packing factory. I cant understand, from where Rediff got information that Delhi Airport is speculative.

this design of drinking water taps came from Western culture. Purpose is , don't use your palms to drink water, so water will not wet.
low pressure is the issue only
