Maharashtra will be Giant State in 10 years...
by The Economist on Jul 22, 2011 12:52 PM

Today its GDP is 190 US billion.. Maha GDP is growing by 8.6 to 10 percent..last year it was 8.6.. this year it is as per economic survey at 10.5..By this rate Maha will cross 200 US billion mark in few months..

Maha literacy is now 82 %

Maha urban population is highest massive 5 crore..

Maha has 30 percent BPL registered population.. but that doesnt mean all are BPL.. In Maha entire towns and villages have BPL cards just to get the benifits of PDS..almost 60% of these are not BPL.

Maha continues to pull highest FDI aroun 45 billion in last 10 years...

Second thing which Eco survey is pointing out is apart from MMR region.. there are new turbo growth regions growing fast... PMR( Pune Metropolitan region)... NMR ( Nashik Metropolitan region).. AMR ( Aurangabad Metropolitan Region.. NMR (Nagpur metropolitan region)... Kolhapur, Solapur , Nanded and Latur are also growing at 10 percent...

In 2 years Pune will be officially 7th Metro as per RBI guidelines..

The troubling agriculture sector is gearing up.. it has registered 10.4 percent decadal growth just behind gujarat (10.7).

Infrastructure remains a challenge throughout the state.. as it is there for rest of the cities.. There is a need more local agitation to speed up Infra projects...

Maha has special 10 districts which come into Poor category.. They need to be looked after and pulled into mainstreamm growth... The new industial policy which will be released this year is likely to take care of it.

Per Capita GDP
by unnikrishnanrozario@rediffmail.com on Jul 22, 2011 12:31 PM

No point in looking at the Gross GDP, lets put focus on Per Capita GDP. Per Captia GDP gives us a clearer picture on individual economic progress and also a great focus is required on HDI.

Maharashtra: Rich state with poor people
by Abhijit on Jul 22, 2011 11:42 AM  | Hide replies

Very few people in Maharashtra come in Middle and rich class.
Only Businessmen, Politicians, executives.
Rest small businessmen, farmers, employees are earning very less when compared with other states like Gujrat, Andhra, TN, Punjab.
Due to the fact that GDP divided by Nr of people, comes per capita income, one may think that Maharashtra is rich.

I am replying here as i do not see reply button on previous message.

It is not pocket"s" dude, it is only Mumbai, because of its location and pre-independance infrastructure, which is financial captial of India. Maharshtra as a state has very little role to play here.
That is why I gave you comparison with Punjab and Haryana, who have no metro, even the shared capital Chandigarh is a UT, but still their GDP is better than Maha (Including Mumbai). But I don't see these guys bosting about it and showing pity on others, some food for thought.

Again I pity your logic !!!
Punjab and Hariyana GDP is far below than Maharashtra. You are talking about GDP per capita. Check this article again MH per capita is more than Punjab. Haryana per capita is hardly 300 more than MH, but size does matter.
Please argue for the sake of arguing. You need to have your facts correct. I think you are suffering from Hate MH Syndrome.

Jealous of Maharashtra .... Maharashtra is rich because of foresighted leaders and reformers at the time of Independance and upto early 90's. Now maybe things are not as good in governance but the development base made in mumbai, pune, nashik, nagpur, kohlapur, sangli, aurangabad...etc will keep it at top

If you remove Mumbai, rest of maharashtra will stand at bottom of the table(Mumbai itself contributes more than $100Billion GDP) The real rich states are Punjab and Haryana, having no metro their per capita is still better than Maharashtra's.

And I guess you are not aware of Pune(IT hud,Automobile hub, seventh meto in india),Nagpr,Nashik,Aurangabad.
I pity your knowledge !!!!

Instead of having pity try to look at fact. it is sad that we don't have these figures published at one place but whatever way you calculate if you keep Mumbai's GDP and its population out Maharsthtra total income and per capita GDP will be similar to that of MP or AP. So why so much puff. Despite having Mumbai, in last 60 yrs maharashtra could hardly grow as any other state in India, pune's development only started once Mumbai got saturated. So all this greatness of Maharshtra is actually linked to mumbai. Vidarbha is still a backword region is testimony to this fact.

I agree that there are still some packets of Maharashtra which are not as developed as Western Maharshtra...but then look at the size of Maharashtra..it is the 3 largest state by size in india...
Now coming back to your poor logic...if apply the same logic to other states...remove Bangalore from Karnataka, remove chennai from TN, remove Ahmedabad from Gujarat, remove Hyderbad from Andhra...what remains is at par of Bihar or UP.
I still pity your knowledge ahout MH !!!!

even if you remove mumbai.. Maha remainst at Top.. Mumbais GDP as per RBI website is 70 billion that is for Mumbai and Suburban Mumbai district... So if you deduct it from 190 then its 130 billion still Maha comes to No.1... Just go to RBI website and open the population register tables...
