Maharashtra's figure barring Mumbai
by Paresh Padhye on Jul 22, 2011 02:28 PM  | Hide replies

It is very interesting statistics published recently. If Mumbai regions output is removed from Maharashtra's output then Maharashtra ranks among 1st five BIMARU states in country. Thanks to Mumbai, Maharashtra's figures are extremely skewed. It is high time figures of Mumbai are given separately so that "real" Maharashtra GDP and other economic figures are "revealed"

hey buddy. UP is second, but did you look at the GDP per head. It is a meagre < 500$ and that is why there are so many poor people in up... its high gdp is because of its high population and not because of its economic growth.

Maharashtra contributes over 40% of India's national revenue
by Aditya on Jul 22, 2011 02:09 PM  | Hide replies

Out of which more than 25% comes from Mumbai alone. Imagine a country so huge in which one city alone contributes more than 25% of the complete national revenue. Its high time this great city of Mumbai got its due and be declared as the National Capital of India and also be declared as a separate state.
Truly then Mumbai will turn into a Shanghai within a couple of years. Mumbaites are the most hard working, intelligent, smart and educated people amongst all in India!! Thats the reason for Mumbai's and in turn India's continuous progress!

why national capital... what is wrong with Delhi? if in future, Patna contributes maximum to the national revenue, would you again suggest a change of capital?

Delhi has the infrastructure and the look and feel of a national capital, unlike the slum packed Mumbai.

Next time rediff should show corruption index of all states.
we all need to support Anna Hazare for his fight against corruption.

All the indexes Hunger, human develoement should be clubbed into groups.. Punjab and Kerala come into Medium state category with less than 5 crore population...

Imagine a population of 10 crore plus..

ofcourse thre is poverty in all states with a different style and magnitude and that is due to majorly the Land and water issues... Fertile areas are generally prosperous if irrigation is available...
