Though the middle class will fight any such allusion, it is true that the 'civil movement' is an attempt to foist their own superiority over that of the masses.

Brave article, I should say!

How did we fight against British Raj, we fight against curruption
by Sajay Nair on Apr 19, 2011 11:03 AM

We are not able to do anything, only talking about everything, we must fight against corruption, scams, criminalisation of politics. power means money and money means power, these are located to the hands of some bloddy peoples, they dont have any religion, party, caste, and patriotism, they do not think about public and nations. these seditors destroying India since 1947.

But I can underling onething that the Congress and their leaders have been destroying India since 1947 than the others. Curruption has been institutionalised by congress.

The second thing is bureaucracy, they are the second destroyer of the nations, they do not work well.

The third one is media, paid news, nepotism and favourism, they blindly hiding truth and always supporting the interest of party leaders and billionaires.

The three factors mainly avoiding peoples interst.

Ridiculous viewpoint
by Manoj M on Apr 19, 2011 11:00 AM  | Hide replies

Dear Ajit, if you feel it's only middle class who are crying against corruption, you are wrong. Today, it's the poor who are more affected by corruption than the middle class. Anybody who transacts with goverment deals with corruption. Middle class has found a way to bypass goverment in most cases. Middle class doesn't need PDS for food or ration cards, they dont enrol their kids in goverment schools, they dont go to goverment for seeds & fertilizers, their homes are not regularly demolished for making roads or factories, heck, they dont walk miles for a bucket of water, they dont wait for days for electricity, they dont stand in the queue for NREGA handouts, etc., I can keep going on. It's the poor, who in all the above scenarios pay goverment officials. You should commend the middle class for protesting even though they have not been so badly affected by corruption as the poor have been. There is a difference in the view points. Rich class needs goverment to do their dirty work. Middle class would like goverment to go away & not be visible. Poor are the ones who need goverment the most & who are let down all the time. So, pl stop the tirade & your fancy leftist theories, which have been discredited all over the world. Just question yourself on who is middle class. I can bet that 90% of middle class has seen poverty at least a generation or two back.

Author is highly confused
by rational on Apr 19, 2011 10:59 AM

Author seems to be thinking that Power is shifting towards Poor class/Lower caste classes.

That is correct but he thinks that those classes prefer Goondas. That is absurd.

The fact is that poor class/downtrodden class has no choice to choose the right person.

If he had a choice of choosing the right candidate or rejecting all of them or say right to recall, then these goons sitting in Parliament won't be there.

There would certainly be representative from those lower/poor classes but they would act with wisdom because they know about the hardships in life.

Present set of Parliamentarians are either goon or so wicked/clever person that they know how to win.

By just saying that middle class should be ready for change, author seems to be forgetting that any society progresses just because of its middle class.

If india is becoming a force to reckon with, then it is due to its middle class. Does author think that poor class/un-educated class would bring in change that would do good for everyone.

Development always come after Growth. If something is coming out latest technology, then it is trickling down to lower class also, Mobile is a good example.

Author seems to be saying that it is Middle class who is propagating Corruption. Actually it is this class who has wisdom to see and question the reality.

Can you expect animals (lower/poor class) living in form of human flesh to question authorities as to what is going is correct or not.

Machiavellian tactics of Congress
by sanjay bhatia on Apr 19, 2011 10:59 AM  | Hide replies

The way the members of the civil society are being hounded out by pro-corruption Congress party shows how steeped our culture is in corruption. Politicians and their crony capitalists are running scared and using all dirty tricks to derail the anti corruption movement still in its nascent stages. All the misinformation and disinformation campaign against the movement could not have been possible without the blessings of the top most leaders of pro-corruption Congress. At one stage the pro-corruption Congress leaders support the movement and at the other end they are indulging in dirty tricks using the state machinery. The movement should remain steadfact against the onslaught from all sides inclduing attacks by some section of the media. I was taken aback how a paper like Hindustan Times is being used by the pro-corruption Congress to tarnish the movement. People should boycott such media.

why are you leaving advani, modi, etc etc.
none of them are coming out openly.
all are same.
Politics has been considered as a sort of Private organization job wherein you do get salary but you can earn more than salary through your incentives.

Incentives in politics is commission. If you get a political party in power, you are offered some position and they you can loot as much as possible until you are caught.

What I understand
by om shanti on Apr 19, 2011 10:52 AM

The summary of the article:

1.There is nothing called corruption,it is only our mind that is getting corrupted.Corruption is a relative term.

2.When some one is poor or retired,he opposes corruption and when he is healthy and in power,he himself indulge in corruption.

3.You can do nothing to the so called corrupt people except accusing them of being corrupt.Infact, you are corrupt,so you think others are corrupt.

4.For media "corruption" is just a time tested hit news item which generates revenue for them...

democracy can be nurtured only by congress party but not by individuals of any other party.

you see the ideology of BJP different.

What will happen if you bring NDA govt ?

in the name of removing corruption they start riots , bring their reiligion agenda and other customs into practice which is anti democratic.

we must insists congress leaders that the people involved in corruption must be brought to justice.

congress has got beautiful agenda of removing corruption. but it must be implemented to free corruption at all levels.

i am not praising congress , ofcourse i accept the fact some people in the party misusing the power. all belivers are not followers of Jesus. "faith without actions is dead" - James

Decoding india's Corruption Wars
by surendran a on Apr 19, 2011 10:36 AM

Dear Ajith,

I do not understand what you are trying to say. Is it that the whole thing called corruption (at least in India) is in the minds of the English speaking middle class (of which you are also a part)? Or, is it that behind every public activity or outcry there is vested interest (thereby implying that ALL activities of groups of humans are tainted)? Or is it an exhortation that all actions for social good are useless and individuals are to bother only about self interest and do whatever that serves to further the selfish interest (to hell with social interests - somewhat along the lines of Rhett Butler of GONE WITH THE WIND fame)? Surely it would have been better if you had clarified a bit more explicitly for it is your duty to do so since common people tend to follow the views of successful people like you.

So, what's the point
by Young Indian on Apr 19, 2011 10:30 AM

It appears that the author is trying to gloss over the issue of corruption in India. No, this is not a problem of the New Indian Middle class. The corrupt state machinery is the root cause of the Maoist movement. Pranab Mukherjee whines that the Maoists are around because of the CPI(M). They exist and are quite likely to grow in strength solely due to you and your uncles and aunts who are corrupt in thought and action.

Ever imagined what would happen if the New Indian Middle class lent support to the tribals?
