I am very sure these small culprits who steels from the shops/malls definitely would have been handed over to the police and could have been punished under law. But who will punish the politicians who had looted our citizens annual tax amount paid to the exchequer.

not surprised as your tiny brain can not understand that the survey is sponsored by checkpoint system who want to sell their security systems to big shops and malls where poor people do not go.

pl. go Global Retail Theft Barometer web site. it tells that the average cost of shoplifting is around 196 dollars world wide. i.e equal to 8,820 rupees.

most of the super markets in india do not touch that amount for their bills.

I feel the most of supermarkets fudge their accounts to make additional profit.

It is not the amount of money but the number of cases involved which makes up the stats.

u r right. but the chances are that the supermarkets fudge their sales accounts to make additional profit should also be taken into consideration.

Also it is but natural for the number to go high because a billion plus people do shop in India while in some countries the population is less than half comparing to some of our metros. In any way, Indian mind set is, if Netas can do it, we too can !

what ever
by Mariappan Vignesh on Nov 24, 2010 02:37 PM

Comeon rediff i hope you dont ever go for shopping or what?
well as per me you say india has a statistic of value thats way higher okay tell me the figures as comparing to the mass to state is clearly tell me how many person do such thing out of hundred and then put such statistic on the board then you will come to know what are the rankings !
I happen to visit lot of place in india and abroad and found that where ever i go i can find myself more safe in india then in any country. If you doubt take a costly mobile and try to have a 200 yards walk in the strick country like Kingdom of saudi. Peep into any shoping mall and check out the satistics by your self. use some of your own brains and reflect on these result we all know that what are international politics. even if you post such rediculous articles every day we indians know that we have already became a superpower but only these articls are keeping and such manupilated stats are making us feel we are underdeveloped.

There are 3 kind of lies

There are 3 kind of lies, lie, damned lies and statistics.
Just before commenting, try and understand how these figures are published. A process flaw cannot be cannot be considered as theft(This was one of the parameters measured)and im sure a major portion would be from the same.

Statastics can be whatever u want it to be. It is absolutely absurd. Indias per capita income is 44000. so if u take 3 members per family on an avg. it is 120000. So i cannot imagine that 5% of percapita income can be same as what was stolen in retail.

Just give it a thought

Exactly I wrote a message with faults in process flow but someone marked it as abuse.

The process at shopping malls is pathetic in India becuase malls think investing in inventory management , better bar code readers , RFID etc is waste of money.
while TESCO , Wallmart spend millions on inventory management software I have not seen a single large scale IT project from Indian retailers like big bazaar , shoppers Stop , Trent etc.

Partly yes.

partly also, the connivance between the corrupt employees to pass off their thefts as lifting.
