the article reflects the negative attitude of the author towards the indian public. problem of theft is with retailers but not with buyers or customers. just as terrorism ,theft does'nt have any colour , region etc. so, the author should be cautious in preparing such articles, rather than she/he can give more constructive inputs which will curb thefts for the retailers.

Very well said. Rediff won't print Pakistan has most terrorist in the world but it will print that India has most shoplifters. I think the author just managed to publish his experience while shopping.

Exactly correct Not only that some irrational indians along with English stooges and locals have attacked and killed indians in australia . Everyone except a Nepalese student ,a bangladeshi student ,a pakistani student ,only Indiand got attacked over 100 times and killed how is it possible
They are two different things ....Shrinkage can be due to back office employees, and not customers. I cannot imagine customers shop lifting, after all there are multiple eyes watching customers. Shrinkage measures taken where? Possibly Delhi.

First make your economy better ,do you know what happens at night in Dubai ,,or in Sydney why double standards ,who is borrowing more money ,indian based retail companies or companies based outside india ,,like Dubai world ,banks etc . BANKS ARE THE BIGGEST CHEATERS AND LOOTERS .
The biggest shop lifters are the celebrities of US. They swindle costly designer products and face embaracement. so stoop so low to the extent of stealing inner garments.

ALSO BANKS themselves they got us 650 billion dollars stimulus ,because they sold with greed for more profits . DUBAI WORLD has us 100 billion dollar debt on books
Its the mentality of Indians that leads to such embarassing figures. Also we are very poor leaders. We do not stand by the right decision and try to implement it. If you catch someone for shoplifting, we let him/her go without punishment if they can create a drama of sympathy (sometimes crying) or other stuff. Also our mentality to get things free very easily leads us to want to acquire things that we want for free. Its all in our blood. What to do?

Really ,I live in Australia ask the police to publish the all thefts here and who did it who does drugs ,who steals mobiles who steals here in aust in uk etc
India has great tradition of good people who take enjoyment in cheating theft and so on and selling country for money majority of the Indians will do any thing illegal and still claim to be god fearing and worshippers 99% weather rich or poor are not trustworthy and are not religious and still claim to be religious minded, if you provide work and giv e good wages mojority of them will skip work and like to get wages only and no work so if a minority of people 1 % is working hard and the country has progressed to some extent imagine if 99 % start working what will be the result. Dont expect from 99 % liars Jai Hind. Hard work and truthfulness is alien to majority who are thieves in INDIA.
As per the news the 'shrinkage' rate includes sholifiting, theft and process failure. The Morons at Rediff assume that it is only shoplifting. It could have been process failure as well.
The people at Rediff follow no proccess so they cant understand that..hahaha

Seems you guys need a good eye checkup, I am not a rediff supporter but you missed to read this below
In India, 47.3 per cent of retail shrinkage was due to shoplifting and 26.4 per cent due to employee theft. The highest rate of shrinkage was seen in apparels.

Rakhi, That sentence means that 26.3 per cent was due to process failure (100 - (47.3 26.4)).
My point is we are the first with all put togather and not just shoplifting. If you still cant understand then I think you need an english lesson.
This proves why we have so much corruption in govt....as people, as are the representatives... we complain when a policeman asks for money, while we happily do the same at every step..
