Most of the retail trade is done by traditional shopkeepers who stand behind the counter and not in Shopping malls like other countries. If you see overall theft in retail segment it would be much lesser then anywhere else because of low percentage of sales through Malls.
The percentage of shrinkage is of Malls in India this has many reasons.
1. Not investing in technology like RFID which is used in almost all countries. Indian retail chain just employee one security gurd at exit who puts sign/stamp on bill because manpower is cheap however this can not substitute for a automated tag which prevents shoplifting in all countries. The mentality is to save on 25 paise tag on each item and instead employee 4000Rs a month security guy which is cheaper overall.
2. Wrong labeling and bar codes. In most malls billing Q is long because almost 1 item in every bill is unreadable by bar-code reader or barcode tag is missing so shopping assistant is fetched to get the code from other similar item. Many times items are wrongly coded and billed this means costlier item sold for less by mistake many times.
3. Not using automation for inventory keeping. Items are wrongly entered and recorded.
retailers think shrinkage is cheaper then investment in above things. If retail chain invest in above shrinkage will be inline with other nations.

If theft/shoplifting is reported by the retail chain, u sell the item without paying sale tax, save on Income tax and may be claim insurance too. Why just blame the innocent AAM AADMI.
And the shocking fact is that most of these shop-lifters turn out to be from well-to-do families, coming in big cars. When caught, they allege that they are suffering from kleptomania. A lot of these shop-lifters also happen to be females.
Not one Arab country in the list. This shows how Middle Eastern countries live a life where no one dares to commit a crime. Your family can walk around safe without fear, shop without guards keeping an eye on yah.
Paradise on earth, Muslim countries with proper law. Not like fake-Islamic Pakiland.

Do you the reason? It is not due to being muslim country but the people have enough and easy money coming from oil and gas wells. Let this get consumed than you see - it will be chaos - loot and plunder everywhere in that country. When people don't have to eat of one time meal , bound to have these problems.

hold on janab - statastics are based on reports, In India most of the cases are reported, In Arab country cases are not reported, you check with Dubai retailers in person you get figures - egyptians are born for this act, particularly those comes in Boorkah- on shoplifting pakistanis are not good at all

All crimes committed in middle east are by expatriates. Indians are number 1 at crimes in Middle East. I once read a sign on qatar Airport in HINDI saying "Stealing from this watch shop will be punishable by fine and imprisonment" WRITTEN IN HINDI, imagine, specifically for Indians on QATAR AIRPORT.
Indian-Pakis are gutter creatures and India-Pak are gutterlands.
