I think foreigners tend to treat people equally regardless of color(well most of the time).. and it wud be stupid to believe that Indians are getting special respect ..I mean respect for wat? poverty, unemployement, high corruption...or may be they might be crespecting india for so victoriously closing the bhopal tragedy..or may be for 26/11..

India definetly commands respect now....
by arun tikoo on Jun 30, 2010 07:59 PM  | Hide replies

I was reacently at Yeravan airport for Immigration check. One Swiss middle age lady asked me if i was indian. When i said yes, she complimented me for the growth India is showing. I couldnt imagine this scenario 10 years before when they would talk about Snakes.
Really felt proud.
I know we need to go a lot further...Still we are very underdeveloped compared to West. But start has been made and difference is felt. I just hope our politicians can go forward as much as people of India.

I am in sync with your views. I had mentioned the same feeling of respect for India across the Western world. Still some way to go but i am sure that India will get there.

Not true..
by Michael Angelo on Jun 30, 2010 05:53 PM  | Hide replies

Nobody respects India. Indians are subjected to terrible harrassment at all immigration counters. People of even small countries like Denmark, Finland can walk through immigration counter without a single question asked. Indians in Egypt/UAE etc get tortured if they even commit a small mistake like asking for their passport. Whom are these people trying to fool.

Micheal, i have not come across a bigger idiot than you. How did you grass such a viewpoint? I suspect that you were done in by terrible harassment by immigration authorities as u had something to hide. Never i nor any of my people incl friends have come across situations like yours.

Looks like you have an axe to grind and hence your vituperative comment that is shorn of any logic. I am surprised that a so called Indian like you is allowed to go abroad, what you need is a lock up in a sanatorium to reform you.

How do we know the food we are consuming is not adulterated!
by You See on Jun 30, 2010 11:52 AM

How do we know the food we are consuming is not adulterated and is a quality one! Who would check this... how to know this is 100% perfect... Also, who would sponsor the farmers for the production of food... why there is only talk about the retail chain... and no one is talking of supporting farmers in their produce... Let companies sponsor for Agri and farmers in general without taking out their dignity and self respect and ensure we Indians get quality food and cheap one at that... this is the order of the day... All nutritiotous foods shoud be given to Indians first and always ...

I think you don't understand meaning of the word respect, how many developed countries give landing visa to indian passport holders ? even small country like pak order's India around, drdo developing an engine since 20 years, worst infrastructure, poverty, poor medi care, unemployment, naxals, maoists, terrorists flourishing in India, pak terrorists and chinese military crossing the intl border, legal system which does not really work, criminals & terrorists living comfortably for decades on tax payers money, corrupt politicians, govt employees - congratulations if you still think you are internationally respected, say this only in India, overseas they might send you to a mental asylum

Let us all work hard, our country will change.
Let us all be patriots and honest,we will produce good political leaders.
This in turn will change our country towards good.
Every country has good and bad things except few.We are a population of 1.1 billion, this human resource we have to convert to strength from our weakness.Definitely one day,we will be superpower ,we are talking of visa on arrival,we can also make our country such that other countries will chase to issue visa for Indians.Heaven has not fallen down.Let us rise to the occasion..

Om Shanti, i am gladdened by what you have said. What India needs is committed people like you with an unflinching love for the nation. There is no doubt on what you have said will come true as u know as cycle of time passes by the wheel of fortune too has to turn. It could be India's turn someday and that should not be too far, if not possible in our lifetimes, but in our grandkids lifetimes.

I must let you know that there is tremendous appreciation for what India has achieved to date despite formidable problems the kind of which very few nations face. Based in the US, i can tell that and also tell that the West would like to have India as a natural ally as we both share similar values and philosophies.

May be...

But look at the hindrance we are facing... Do we really think Hard work is enough... doesn't the Govt think to give all the Citizens the conducive environment...for work and earning a livelihood of their own.. How about food security policy, Education to all, Hard work by all and sharing of resources equally instead of all the Riches with a few people and also the distribution of wealth to the economically weaker sections...

by Police Officer on Jun 30, 2010 11:17 AM  | Hide replies

Unlike in India, America prevents corruption by imposing Death Tax.
Whoever inherits your wealth will have to give 55% of it to Govt.
* personal property (such as a home, cars, furniture, paintings)
* business assets (property, machinery and inventory)
* investments (stocks, bonds and real estate)

(to./4jj5)

And only Death Tax will prevent Nehru-Gandhi dynasty's hegemony in India.

These neoriches are making fool of common people. They control everything from media to resources. They are the new NAWABS & RAJAS of modern india.Rich people are getting richer & poor people are getting poorer. They have benefitted most from free economic policy & resisting these benefits should not percolate to poorer people.MMS the flagbearer of free economy has abolished pensionable jobs but he is ex-employee of world bank & still reciving pension from worldbank. They are advocating free oil prices but does any body talks of stopping loots & pilferages from oil companies. They never talk about efficint management of oil-cos.Has govt ever taken a step to reduce tax on petrol or diesel.Rich people are given tax-benefits & common people has to pay taxes on their savings.Crime & corruption is increasing every day.No-body care for law of the land.
And yet We command respect. We are staring at a social disaster. There are more imp things than high GDP rate.
What will be achived if india becomes thirdlargest economy but indian masses continue to suffer from poverty.People make a nation. If they are suffering which is the case for common people of india,No nation can make progress.

Why do we not all do hard work and try to be nawabs like them rather than criticizing?
How many jobs they have created have we not seen. Before those unemployeed youth gossiping and standing on the street corners have become now mobile company sales men or a dealer, have we not seen this change? Now,even a farmer use a mobile phone to ask to the middle man, what is the rate of cabbage today? Do I cut the crop? Please agree India is changing and we all need to contribute.Criticism is the easiest thing one can do,we should appreciate the good things happening around us..community goal is always greated than individual goal.I should not be sad because all benefits are not coming only to me..yes,India commands respect now..
