Right now, India HAS THE DUBIOUS DISTINCTION OF HAVING MORE THAN HALF OF ALL THE WORLD'S STARVING PEOPLE. What this country desperately need is a real govt- at the center and at the state levels- which is all wishful thinking. Fact is, after 60-odd years, there is still no family planning or population control policies- in the next 15 years India will surpass China to be be most populous country with over 75% of the world's starving masses, as this Cong govt haven't a clue about growing the economy and creating the hundreds of millions of jobs necessary to stave off mass starvation.

Very true said out of the 60 years of indepandency baring few 10-15 years its been complete mismanagement of our country by Congress. Its high time we the citizen should look into voting for only those who deserve irrespective of various party lines.
It is a fact and Nothing can be done!! Everything you want from Political Party!! What you have done for the country? Have you ever thought? and Here, you are fighting like a child this state that state ..? Finally, it is ours country. Secondly, percentage is not given. The thing is mentioned number of people. In TN, ANDHRA, % wise there might be more poor people than UP, MP or ... They picked up most populous states for comparison... Stop CRYING !!! LOOK AT YOURSELF!! WHAT IS YOURS COUNTRIBUTION!!!

Do you people have national feelings when you shove Hindi down the throat of South Indians, saying it is good for the Nation.
So after 60 years of pushing Hindi down our throats, why are these north Indian states so miserably poor, worse even than Africa?
Instead of forcing our children to learn Hindi, how about teaching these million of illiterates in these north Indian states to lear to read and write HINDI (am not pushing Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam down their throad).
Where are your national feelings now, when your own Hindi people are pulling the nation down? In the last 18 years after Narsimha rao made it possible for states to attract private investment directly, and south got the freedom finally to attract investment (without having to b slave to step motherly treatment of Center govt which funded Bihar UP MP Rajasthan, besides giving free water/electricity and easy loans to Punja/haryana) we south began to break free.
I am not trying to be happy at the miserable state of Hindi speaking states...but I want to pose this question to everyone...if Hindi was marketed as the cure for national progress and to cause development, whey is Hindi heartland worse than Ethiopia, Somalia, Congo, Sudan, Niger,Liberia today?
How about you guys leave the south alone, and focus on developing your Hindi states. We can take care of ourselves. Give us some more time, and we will all south states be at the very top.

current india-north india = socially and stratigically disturbed area. majority of the IAS,IPS and banking services are having north indians at top positions. u can go thru history if u hav lil bit extra time except thinking these stupid things, most of the prime ministers are from north india (U.P.). the only bad scenerio 2de in north is bad political situations n not the north indian people.

Most of the prime ministers were from UP/North India. But it was just one prime minister who really changed the course of India, and OPENED teh economy. Narsimha Rao. All the hype we see about India Shining and India will overtake the USA in 25 years (I live in the US and I jumped off my chair when I read that, what lovely dreams!)...those dreams and hype and investments we are seeing was possible due to Narsimha opening the economy and allowing staes to attract private investment, without having to wait for license from corrupt babus in delhi. Who gained the most from that...the south indian states, which were till then ridiculed as useless states. So why the sudden change in south? Because successive 'North Indian PMs' couldnt care less about teh south, and only bothered about their vote banks and hindi belt.
By the way, what we see in this article is only half the picture. The real bad picture is when we add up the investments made in these Hindi states since independence and compare it with investments made in other states. The difference is going to be huge (even on a per capita basis) with what was allocated to the South and North East states. North East and South was ignored by teh PMs till Narasimha opened things up and changed the game.
I can guarantee you guys one thing. Mark it on your calendar. In 10 years from now, the 4 south states would be at the very top. There is so much anger pent up (that we normally dont speak openly about) at the discrimination.

Typical bull shit article by a western agency to ridicule India and Indians. The total population of these states put together is around 421 Million (Around 42 Crores)... as per the article there are 421 million poor people in these 8 states. Does that mean everyone in these states are poor? Atrocious, Ridiculous and Scandalous to say the least.

Wrong. The total population of these 8 states is around 57 crores (according to estimates prepared by the Planning commission in 2009 for it's annual resource allocation exercises) !
These 8 states are incidentally among the most populous in India !
It is a well known fact that IT workers make way too much than they know what to do with it... I say let assign 1 aam-admi family to each IT worker.
IT worker must feed the aam-admi family for life and provide money for education etc. basically sponsor them and correct the inflation that IT workers have caused by their lavish lifestyle.
In this way we can spread the wealth around in a true way.

I agree with IT workers supporting one aam admi family. But please assign one politicians to each IT worker.
