its because of this one attitude that our country is a shit hole when compared with other countries. north vs south, east vs west...we tend to forget that this is all part of one country...a guys makes a crore in corruption and still what does he get...a mere suspension or maybe a transfer...the chinese or the americans does not speak that "i am from that place so i will work here" uts only here...and china is called "peoples republic of china" and the US is "United states of America"..when will we call india a united country when we are trying to break itself from the inside in the name of development and caste?? how are countries as big as a state in India become more rich than the whole of India...so its not all that...basically we are ruled by an unaccountable mass called politicians...how many names do we hear apart from the mainsteam guys...none..and we have the dumbest people who will elect a don to rule them just because voting is our right!!!...my right my foot..i have the freedom to exercise my right...i rather not vote than exercise my rights and vote some goonda to head the city or ward...

Inclusive Growth?
by Dev on Jul 18, 2010 08:23 AM

Our useless politicians like to boast that our growth is "inclusive". It seems that our "inclusive growth" has excluded 55% (645 million) of our population! We always like to criticize that China's growth has excluded many people, but China's poverty rate is only 12% according to MPI based on 2003 data. China has since 2003 made great strides, and I would not be surprised that China's current MPI poverty rate is well below 10%. The real question is this: why are our politicians so shameless.

India 2020
by Dev on Jul 17, 2010 05:19 AM  | Hide replies

India vs. China, anyone? Are there still delusional people dreaming of catching up and surpassing China? Does anyone still believe that we will become a superpower by 2020?
- In 2004, our Prime Minster made a pledge to make Mumbai better than Shanghai within 5 years. Now is 2010, and I don't hear anyone talk about Mumbai vs. Shanghai anymore. Why do we always fool ourselves? The Chinese must be laughing at us.

Dev, you make a valid point. I live in the US, and have travelled the world. People back home may not like it, but the hard real truth is this. Pardon me for saying so, but India is at the absolute bottom of the pit.

It is a cruel joke that the govt/media plays on people. The other day I laughed when I read a comment on rediff (perhaps this very article), about one guy saying that he is sad after reading this report that eight north indian states are worse than AFRICA, and that now it will take India 40 years instead of 25 to catch up with the US! I almost jumped out of my chair, when I realized that people in India are in such a dream world of catching up with the US in 25 years!!!

If India just takes up one project. Building rest areas, and rest rooms and toilets for all Indians, and all public areas, bus stops, train sations, pubic offices, all over India just like the US...just this one project to include all villages, towns and states of India, just like the US in the toilet department...this one single project can not be accomplished in 25 years or 40 years! (Which by the way, was promised soon after independence, and ever since..but not done yet).

And people are talking about overtaking the US in standard of living. What exactly are people smoking.

To be a winner we need to have the 'can do' winner habbit. ppl are stunned that kerala is more prosperous than PUnjab Haryana Gujarat, and make sheer jealous comments..how can ppl with this attitude ever succee

sadly we have to agree with you...

how growth can happen in India when -

1. Our politicians and bussiness tycoon are worlds richest. their wealth is coming after sucking the people dry...

2. When farming make you commit suicide and same farming product after keeping in 2 month storage generate 1000% income for middlemen.

3. None of the project is completed in last 60 years whatever started is going on and on feeding only project related/employed people

4. No body even discuss forget about controlling the population.

5. News Chanel have no news to display only lafter shows, dance shows and khan & bolywood.

Delhi's ruling elite has surpassed the living standards enjoyed by US elite living in Washington and that's all.
When we say purpassing US, we mean the NDMC area in Delhi will surpass US living standards and not the whole of the country. Our rulers are foreign brands, Nehru, Indira, Rajiv, Sonia Maino, who cares about the bloody Indians, ha.

Five years ago, I believed in "India Shining", and I thought we had 400 million in the middle class. What a joke! We are only fooling ourselves by playing games with numbers and statistics. It seems that our government believes that you are in the middle class if you can afford ONE square meal a day. We are a sad people.

by Dev on Jul 17, 2010 05:18 AM

I have read all the comments here, and I am feeling really sad. We always have infighting. Caste vs. caste, state vs. state, north vs. south, etc. Maybe the Chinese were right, maybe it is easy to break up India into pieces.

It is pathetic that BJP and its cronies are concentrating on caste wars and riots when the common man is starving.

BJP has done so much of damage to India, its economy, and culture. I think they should be banned as an anti-national organisation.

This is a shame for all politicians and even all Indians.People are surely responsible in a way, though i agree people are helpless with the politics and corruption. But blaming one singlr entitiy is incorrect, in thi way, we all know congress have ruled for more number of years. Congress govt. of MMS was expected toto good as they planned many proects but executed none of them as required.
And for caste, when a comman man go to any govt. job / study, the only factor which divide people in different group is caste / class, which you know started and encourage. there should be reservation / aids only for poor people.

accountability
by aarshabharata on Jul 15, 2010 02:21 PM  | Hide replies

The root cause of all this is that as a nation we lack accountability at any level in the functioning of the government - the executive , legislative or judiciary. The ministers are never held accountable, the police, the IAS guys, the clerks in teh government ocffices, the RTO ,everybody. If the FDI grains rot it just makes news but no accountability, no ownling up. High time for Kalki to show up.

Police is thinking they are supremeo,
Political leaders are also thinking so.
Judges are thinking they are most powerful,
Gunda's are thinking they are e resistible hence most powerful.
News maker thinks they can make other dance by spreading news,
Business man thinks ultimately money is the main power they can dictate the term by using money at any level,
ultimately there is no justice, no accountability of any profession, it is an perfect anarchy under equilibrium condition, the day it will break we are waiting but when mera number will come I don't know
