Chinese exports would slump the moment they make their currency convertible at least on current account. Can't understand why USA and other countries are tolerating artificially priced Yuan that gives undue advantage to China. Had India regulated its currency like China, hell would have broken loose on Indians. Let the USA, the largest importer of Chinese goods realise its folly sooner than later.

China will soon face depleting man power issues to fulfill its global ambition. The one child policy will pose a major hurdle apart from freedom etc other issues.

The ageing population is what china have to worry now. Well, India don't have to worry about it but then it needs to at least feed its people and make them empowered (with education) so that goons like Lalu, Mayawati, thakreys can be kept at bay :D

china will never have the goodwill of nations
by wizardo id on Jan 26, 2010 08:29 PM  | Hide replies

china will always be eyed nervously for their power, that's about it. anyone who comes up with power as a sole criterion as in dictatorship (even though china is not one, but is pretty close to being one) is akin to a gang on insane amounts of steroids. there's no natural selection of leaders, might is right. whatever the misgivings of USA, there is a setup which brings down even the likes of george bush.

Why shouldnt they become a super power
by Nischal Ever on Jan 26, 2010 08:29 PM  | Hide replies

After all they are still a communist country with clear focus of economy, defence and growing their country size above all, be it eating into Tibet or Hong Kong or Taiwan or even India for that matter.

Heres how I think they will carry this out--- did you ever think something like this could be happening?. Soon India will be dragged into a War by the US (yes you heard it right) prompted by a terrorist act from pakistan supported completely by the US which in turn will trigger gun battles at the LoC further exaggerated by US as war on Terror triggering a sizable war between Pakistan and India and resulting in US taking over all the Paki nukes and even possibly attacking India and blaming the Pakis for it. US by all means will take over India whilst China is not going to be sitting idle watching US do that. They (China) will act decisively and start taking over large chunks of India resulting in a war between US and China or a compromise between China and the US.

India as it always was will be split into pieces as North India / South India, Your state Vs my State, Your region Vs my region and all sorts of stupid yours and mine issues...

lage raho.... Desi log.. Lage Raho... baad mein jaye India aap bajathe raho harmonium and convince yourself that you are all happy and safe....

China Being superpower--Myth
by Vikas Kumar on Jan 26, 2010 08:20 PM  | Hide replies

There is no doubt that presently China is richest country in the world if we look at all economic indicators; Chinese are also developing anti-gravity technology militarily, it has human capital of more than one billion, which is largest in the world. However, there are certain glitches to be taken into account: Chinese economy (cheap goods) are mainly dependent on developed world especially USA so once the people from these countries start preferring local goods (they have started to boost domestic economy), the Chinese export bubble would burst, which may lead to instability in the country. For military might, Chinese have got most of their technology from USA in exchange of buying their toilet paper (dollar) bonds, so the trends say that there is no superpower concept, rather it is interdependency and that is what hurting globalization due to recent economic downturn, which has impacted all interdependent economies throughout the world....The trends do not suggest China becoming superpower, rather it suggest social instability in Chinese region instigated by economic collapse in USA and other developed world.

The Chinese are only using the US exports to acquire wealth and grow.

In a few years when the Chinese middle class starts living like their fellow Americans there domestic consumption alone will be enough to keep the economy fluid.

And its not just their economy it is their attitude. Look at them in sports. I am pretty sure in the next Olympics they will will get most of the medals.

Chinese researchers are already publishing in top journals.

Honestly the only edge we have is that we speak English better otherwise all BPOs also would have gone to China.

and was pleasantly surprise to see that the average Chinese is much more disciplined and hard working than an Indian. Not only China but all East Asian countries are like that. Besides the corruption is as a much different level unlike India where everyone from a chapraasi to the minister is corrupt to the core.

Look at Taiwan. The per capita GDP in the 60s was less than $200. Today it stands at $35000. Same will gradually happen to China. In 20 years they will be the world power.

Correct. It is India's Administrative fault. Can not blame the people. People have to be controlled by law like China, Singapore. But it wont' happen in India very soon.

Also people's fault of electing retrogrades like Mulayam, Mayawati, Deve Gowda, Ram Vilas Paswan, Lallu and communists. China competes with the world and these retrogrades are busy in demolishing India.

Roads in Chinese cities get you where you are going; roads in Indian cities are often interrupted by bullocks, demonstrations or encampments.
In China, most English-speaking business visitors need a translator; in India, officials and business people are dazzlingly fluent in English.
Chinese hotels have a talent for fleecing guests; Indian hotels are friendlier but noticeably less efficient.
In China, officials know how their system works; Indian executives have more of a feel for how the world works.
Buildings are erected in China seemingly overnight; in India, they often take years to creep into place.
China's bureaucracy seems more efficient than India's on the surface, but is more mysterious and labyrinthine once you get under the skin.
In China, you feel your freedom is limited by government power; in India, you feel it is limited by corruption.
In China, people are nihilistic, unable to shape their own society; in India, people come across as empowered by the ballot-box.
People in China come across as anxious and restless; in India, they appear happier, comforted by religion and ritual.
Huge swathes of China are locked in a timeless, rural way of life; in this respect, India is exactly the same.

In China, even the poorest now enjoy good sanitation facilities (provided by the govt.); In India, lack of sanitation is a part of life for the overwhelming majority even today (so much so that the stink of excreta is what will unfailingly strike you at least once if you travel around in any city) !

The author imagination has gone wild and he is trying to add to chinese being supre power myth that will control the world , White men are paranoid about china. Look at this paragraph . This is proof of whiteman guilt and the testification of the manipulation of the world.
"Gone will be the evangelism of markets and democracy. China is much less likely to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states. But, in return, it will demand that smaller, less powerful states explicitly recognise China's primacy (just as in the tributary systems of old)"

This show what America is doing now and they dont want to loose doing this.
