In my opinion one of the reasons of catching fire could have been that the engine is on the rear. Due the above fact the engine doesn't get proper natural cooling when the vehicle is running on the road as compared to the vehicles which have engines on the front and get the direct cooling because of the natural air coming directly in contact at a velocity with the heat generating parts leading to a better cooling.
the basic problem with indian manufacturers like tata mahindra etc is that they dont put enough effort in pre launch testing and research on the proposed cars.
rather, they launch the cars in basic form, let the people use it and in the due course find out the defects in the car, give free service for 3-5 years, and then based on the study develop the new varients. THEY SIMPLY EXPERIMENT THEIR NEW PRODUCTS ON PEOPLE. thats it.
STILL, i own a tata car and am very happy with the performance.
Miliions of reliable TATA vehicles and products have been plying and been rock solid for decades. These cases seem extremely unique and suspicious to me.
Theres definitely more to this than meets the eye.
I hope TATAs are investigating this stealthily as the competitors in India are pretty cut throat.
BTW, Suzuki/MAruti - 51% of all money earned on that car goes straight to japan due to the partnership agreement.
TATAs are leaders and all leaders will have haters. TATAs are way too cool and classy and will solve this problem. Time will tell...

Leaders Stomach is bigger then any animal in the world, most corruptions loose Judicary, heavily burden,is beyond reach, N over reach, is the root cause to influence the news, thro' dealers.
The answer provided is not convincing because increasingly the big cars have smaller radiators and engines are made to run at hotter temp for efficiency.
I am sure testing by Tata over million Km will have sorted this area.
I think the starter & circuits must be having some malfunction and its quality should be improved.
all those who critisized tata nano forget one thing any product which is launched first time do have some problum even NASA have problum discovery is example does it means its cedibility is dented or they stoped working . we should be proud od our engg. who have achieved this when all world were makind jokes of indian engg. ihave indica of 2001 model and have crossed 86000 kms and i havent faced any problum till now and i think max. taxis are indica.

Mr.Atul - "Everybody has problems" is not a Industrial standard to measure a product. If you pay for a product you expect some quality. In this case "atleast" safety. You've been driving an Indica most of your life and i understand why you've gotton alienated to the concept of Quality. If i were you i'll atleast check my spelling before vouching for some one. Doesn't say much quality there does it?
Because it FLAMED other Looting Companies. Does anyone keeping records how many Maruti Fatalities happening each year? How many GMs facing box-bump each year? How many Toyotas facing fire each year?
Why NANO is in the NEWS? Because it is NEWS in itself...POSITIVE as well as NEGAIVE....there is PROFIT either way.
