Nano
by Tom Dick on Apr 19, 2010 07:12 PM  | Hide replies

Nano is basically an Autorickshaw with four wheels. My suggestion is that we remove the doors of the vehicles and use it as an auto. Atleast you can escape quickly if there is a fire!

Autos have engine in the back and they are out in the sun, they run more kms than your regular car, and they have been around for quite some time now, very difficult to understand what this article talks about rear engines catching fire due to overheating.

All politicians are given home made car. So why not NANO for them
by Abhi Bhat on Apr 19, 2010 07:06 PM  | Hide replies

All politicians are given home made car. So why not NANO for them.
I will pay 1 Lk for official car to Sharad pawar. And if Lalu has burning desire to own a nano i can sponsor that too.

Whoever had wished to gift their 5 yr old kid a nano on b'day pls rethink.

BTW I dont own car in India becos it is bad for air, bad for roads, bad for pedistrian, bad for animals, bad for oil independency, bad for health, bad for traffic, bad for chemical pollution in water, bad for disposing so soil pollution, bad for socialistic economy, bad for farmers land.

incomplete development
by chuting su on Apr 19, 2010 06:49 PM  | Hide replies

It looks obvious that TATA has not developed this product fully. In order to cash-in on the hype surrounding the Nano, they have not done a complete /proper development. In any case, they have no clue about passenger car requirements. If they feel there are issues - they should have been fixed BEFORE they launched the product & not like this on a case2 case basis. Agreed that you should not expect it to have the safety features of a Benz but that doesnt mean Tata can get away with unfit products.More importantly, again in order to cash in on the demand for high capacity AC buses, they have launched their Marco-polo range of low ceiling buses. One more piece of Junk.If you ride in a Volvo - this marco polo feels like junk.Iam sure it costs 20% of a Volvo but that doesnt mean it can catch fire whenever it wants to - there are people's lives involved. In Marcopolo's case - maybe the DTC has messed up but its a shocker. The latest joke is that Naxals are trying to buy Nano's to replace imported chinese Landmines!

I wont promote Volvo either in small car segment...

Have not looked into their bus/trucks.

Honda still excels,
Hyundai has come a long way from being junk to an improved system..

Tatas has fallen... let us see how new comers perform.
Toyota has also taken some beating..

Fire in new Nano cars
by Vetaikurumugankao Ramanathan on Apr 19, 2010 06:45 PM  | Hide replies

The vehicles getting burnt in fire is not new. There were fires in buses, trucks, and other new and old vehicles. The most obvious and simple reason for 'fire' is short circuit in electrical circuit not protected by 'fuse' of correct ampere rating. I personally know that there are many enineers(so called) who do not know the use of correct ampere rating for electrical circuits. If a 30 ampere rating fuse is used in an electrical circuit designed for 5 amp.fuse, it will certainly lead to fire if a live (Positive) wire in the circuit gets shorted. Simple facts such as this sometimes escape the attention of engineers in the factory or service workshops, leading to serious consequences- V.K.Ramanathan,Automobile Engineer/Manager.

WHEN IS GOVERNMENT GOING TO RECALL Nano?
by E darwin on Apr 19, 2010 06:34 PM

WHEN IS GOVERNMENT GOING TO RECALL Nano for technical and safety reasons?

Should we say, bad and over-hyped design.

Take a lead from Toyota recall and the class action suits and directions from US government.

Shut down Jhamshedpurs, dhanbads, etc mine/urban lands to turn them to tribal forest lands again and restore tribal habitate.

Tribal lived much better life in forest livelihood rather than being landless labour on farm and industrial scenario.

Enough of this 'development pill'
and those useless & catchy rights bills that dont function such as 'education right', 'Right to smoke' , 'right to drink', 'right to piss', etc .

Just lock those poor who beg on street and feed them food such that beggar syndicate does not force them to beg again, mutilate them to look beggarly, etc....

hopefully they will get some work or want to work....

Who are these guys anyway , There are scores of rear engined and mid engined car in the world.

How do you know it is not fuel line cut by rats or some flammable packing material like thermocol left in engine bay ?

These so called experts are just scare mongers.

Another gem from this article is about sparking when headlights are left open for 4 hours in stationary car . That is bound to happen in any car

So many other cars including i10 , Scorpio and Mercedes have burnt on Indian road by why so much hype on Nano ?

Maharashtrians are behind other communities because...
by anwar mirza on Apr 19, 2010 05:41 PM  | Hide replies

Very True.

Maharashtrians never have had a scientist like CV RAMAN, SN BOSE, SUBRAMANIAN CHANDRASEKHAR, JC BOSE, VENKATRAMAN RAMAKRISHNAN, MEGHNAD SAHA for a simple reason.

They just cannot imagine coming out of Pune.

How can you progress if you do not want to come out of Pune?

In BARC, with great difficulty, there is only one Maharashtrian - Anil Kakodkar. The rest are all South Indians - Raja Ramanna, MR Srinivasan, R Chidambaram, PK Iyengar, Gopalakrishnan.

Even in TCS Mumbai, there is not a single Maharashtrian at the top level - S Ramadorai, N Chandrasekharan, S Padmanabhan, Mahalingam. And the Maharashtrians just wash the dishes...eg Shindes, Mhatres, Sawants...who think they are great because Shivaji Maharaj belonged to their caste.

Maharashtrians... Jaago. Learn to adjust in other pasrts of the country.

It is only a Maharashtrian who will say - 'I will prefer becoming a sweeper in Pune rather than becoming a Director of AIIMS'.

RA Mashelkar is the only Maharashtrian who is a Feloow of the Royal Rociety of England.

We have Amartya Sen, JC Bose, SN Bose, Meghnad Saha who are FRSE.

From Tamil Nadu, we have Sir CV RAMAN, Subramanian Chandrasekhar and Venkatraman Ramakrishnan.

What about Dr Jayant Narlikar?? There are many Maharashtrian Scientists. If you want to disagree with Thackerays - do so, but why should you drag Maharashtrians as whole into mud??
Another question - so what if number of scientists are less in a state?? Do you mean to say that ONLY scientists are important people??

I may not agree that Amartya Sen is great, just because he got a Nobel prize! These are all just opinions and you are unnecessarily crating rift between people.

Its not about scientists n all. It is just that Maharashtrians should come out to do well in parts of India. Dont restrict themselves to Maharas.. . Every part of India belong to them. And they should never think that they are the owner of Maharas...
