Shocking interview
by Kes Som on Nov 03, 2009 06:16 PM  | Hide replies

Shocking that the head of a so-called-leading Management institute measures the success of the institute in terms of salaries earned by students. Obviously she is unaware of the general tread of salaries in India.

Of course IIMs also measure their success by the same yardstick.

All of these business institutes basically manufacture "Munshi"s for MNCs.

Kes Som:Why are you shocked?? This is the attitude of most in India... Lots of money with little or no work. After al, she heads a Busines School and she will talk only in that language. My impression about hsi woman is not good. You can perhaps expect "You can Win", The "flat bottom of Pyramid", "How to avoid avoid work and still make money" kind of books from her.

Indian lag behind because Indian preach what they don't practice.Indians intellectuals have a petty mind and are not original thinkers. That is why India is behind US and China. On almost every parameter China is ahead of India.

Our average student outperforms the brilliant American

I want to comment on this. This is true. I partially agree with this statement. The indians cannot establish standard & consistency. An indian can work hard upto 10-14 hrs & can do multitasking. But on an average american will do only such task which is assigned to him & will give 8 hrs. So if we compare apple with an apple in terms working efficiently, I will rate them up. We can do 150 % in 10-14 hrs , even by working on sundays & saturdays & can take pride we can do work equivalent to 2 person. But if we take about salary perspective we will be paid less then an average american earn. I am not talking of only those elite indian people who are jsut working in US but also those who are working offshore for US. We are doing multiple things at less cost & american are doing single task for equivalent perks. Americans will spend time with family. We will put our family in house will give more preference to more work because i have to show my work , will get additional allowance. If somebody goes onsight first thing comes in mind is how much can i save by going onsite. We are very brilliant in every aspect by doing mutitasking. One point will come american will brilliantly say we need one site resource from india rather then two as one can handle task of Indian alone.

Mere intelleigence is not everything; Attitude is. How many can work in group in a spirit of togetherness. Look at the Sports in India...all are individual excellence: Geet Sethi, P.T. Usha, Vishy Anand, Vijay Amritraj not to speak of the recent sensations in Shoting and wrestling.

The same is tru in Scientific endeavours: We had produced Genius like Ramanujan but few excellent scientists. I am personally aware of few good scientists who are fed up in India. We talk of brain drain. What about the brain drained in India?

Again, why this comparison with American students? The fact is: we need to struggle a lot to even achieve small things in this country. This will have telling effect on Morale of scientists. One exception, where good organizational culture exist, in my view, is ISRO.That was due to the great Vikram Sarabhai.

by Sanjay on Nov 03, 2009 06:02 PM  | Hide replies

One must cite the poor quality of education in India.

credit should be given to elite students for their talent but not to the school who produce nothing but bunch of fools who tolerate corruption making our country one of trhe last in progress and development where are talented have to seek work abroad.

She is a sick person living in serious deluded fantasy world that she does anything good with her third calss education riding on the back of her talented students..

Even most of the elitest Indians do not opt for research.Ever heard of IITians bringing name and fame in field of research, very rarely. They r more interested in making money and become servants of American Banks.Left overs among them opt for management for fat salaries and rest perpare for civil services.

by pradeep agarwal on Nov 03, 2009 05:49 PM  | Hide replies

It is typical Indian way of euoliging without provocation or substance. She can comment upon the acedemic quality of her students without having to make damaging comment on American students. It sounds sweeter to ears if Obama praise Indian students to motivate his countryman however he never hit below the belt about poor infrastructure & faculty in most Indian institutions compared to an avaerage US college.

It is a bitter truth that an average Indian student is better than an average American Student . It is also truth that an average American institute has far better facilities and faculties as compared to an average Indian Student . Why one should shy in sharing the truth even if it is bitter ? I think Ms Karuna rightly expressed the bitter truths .
